' No. 865,021.. I
'Speciilcntion of Letten Patent. ,Application and my s, 1907. `serial lio. 372.607.
barmes stipt# 3,1907.
To all whom it may concern:
lle it known that I, FRANK G.. DORMENT, a citizen .of the United States of America, residing yat Detroit,
' in ther county of Wayne and State -of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in -`Atornizers, of which 'the following is a specification,
.' set forth, v and more particularly pointed out in the appendedclaims, l' Thev drawing is a view in longitudinal section of an atrnize .embodying the invention. i
.The atomizer` consists in a vaporizing .chamber 1 and'a compression or piston chamber 2 securedby a v plate 3 across their upper ends. Although 'they may be made of any suitable material, .in thepreferred 'form they each comprise a seamless cylinder or drawn from sheet metal. The' piston cylinder is provided witha piston head 4, preferably of suitable sheet metal construction, with an outwardly cupped iexiblle packing disk 5, and a stem 6 extends tlnnugh guide aperture in the upper end, witli a thumb plate 7 removably securedb thereon. The lower end of the cylinder is provided with a cap .8, which suitable l screw-threaded or interlocking connection thereon, and is provided with a flexible leather or rubber packing disk 9. -il central circular apertnrel is formed in the cap with its edge slightly inturned as a seat fornil valve flap l1 .or tonguecut'in the packing'slleet.
The cap has a depressed center 20 provided'with a plurality of' radial apertures inzthe rin113; This admits air tothe Vvalve and cylinder in such manner that thehand oi the user-cannotreadily close' or shut off the apertures, A spiral spring 14, preferably a,V conical helix, lin compression b ptween the piston and cap. A mouth piece l5 oi suitable design 'is secured removably the upper ,end of the atomizing cylinder and 4nasalhor aural tips lG'jare provided therefor.
An air tube 17 is secured in parallel relation to and preferably between the cylinders, its lower end open ingdirectly into the piston chamber below the piston head,l lts upper portion is bent into a U and the' depending arm v18 .extends through the upper` .8nd of the atomizingcylinder' for a major portion of the length of the cylinder. It isv bent transversely across the cylinder nearits lower end, and forms a support for a vaporizing'tubc 19 bent at rightl angles between its ends, the horizontal arm being vsecured on the upper side o the air tubo arm, and its lower open end being close to the cylinder bottom.
l A pairofoppositely disposed orifices 21, 22 are formed on the superposed. horizontal tubes in alinement'with-each other, The upper vent 22 is some- With an atomizing" nozzle vwhich throws the spray directly up thecylinder. A deilector 2:3 in the shape The atomizing cylinder `is emovably Vattached to a c ap which is secured tothe plate `in any 'preferred cleaning. The pistoncall .b e .taken from ,the bottom inder cap.
What I claim as my invention ist- 1 An atomizel .comprising an ntornizing chamber', a compression chamber consisting,r of a cylinder, n piston reciprocahle therein, a vaporizer in the atomizing `chamber operatively connected to Vthe `compression ,end of the cylindei', and an air inlet Valve in the c ap'closing the compi-os- `sion end of the cylinder, provided with air inlets radially 'disposed lnthe periphery of the cup.
2. In fin atonilzer having anatomizing chamber', n comthe atomizing cylinder, operatively connected to the compresslou cylinder', a hollow cylinder cap `closingr the compression .end of the cylinder', an all' inlet valve in the'lnner wall ot the Clip.. and air' inlet ducts in the periphery of the`\,cnp,
`3. ln anatomizer having an atomlzlng chamber, a compression1 cylinder, a piston therein, mld a vnpoi'laer in the atornlzng cylinder, operatively connected to the compl-esslon cylinder, a hollow cylinder cap detnchably Secm'ed in -thecompresalon end ot the cylinder', nn apertur'ed valve seat lntl,1e`,inr1er wall of the cup, nir inlets in ythe periphery of `the cap, a ilexlble pecking disk between the the body ofthe packlng'dlsk.
4. A n atom'lner comprising a compression cylinder, piston therein, an atomlzing cylinder secured in parallel Arelation, thereto, u vuporizer consisting of an air tube connected .to the lower compression end of the piston cylinder extending longitudinally o1.' the atomzing cylinder through the upp'er head, bent transversely to the cylinder vnear' italower end,a supply tulle bent at right angles. between lts ends, with one arm supported ori-the ktrimstubes, directed toward the upper end of the cylinder', und n cup removably secured ln. the lower end of the piston cylinder, provided with an air valve in its inner face, havlng al1' inlets in the capperlphery.
5j.-An ntomlr comprising n compression cylinder, n piston therein, un otomlzing cylinder securedk in. parallel relation-tl1ereto,'u-vuporlzer consisting of un nir tube connected to the lower compression end of the piston cylinder extending longitudinally ot the utoruizlnrr, cylluder through' the upper hea'd, bent transversely to the angles, between its ends, with one urm supported on the posed tubes, directed toward the upper end of the cylinder.
u detlector plate between' the jet orifice and upper end of cylinder-,andcap, and s closure on the seat formed from' transverse arm of the air tube, Jet orifices ln the superlarger than the lowerone and constitutes there- .otahorizontaldislr somewhatsmall'er than the cylinder' base, is secured below the mouthpiece on the air manner, so that it call be removed 4for refilling or of its cylinderremoving the thumb plate and cyll pression cylinder', a piston therein, and n ynpoi'izer in verse arm volf-they air tube, jet orltices'ln the superposer! cylinder near its lnwerend, a supply tube bent at right the cylinder, a 'eap removably secured in the loweil end of I secured in the compression end ofthe cylinder, a valve in the piston cylinder, and .an-air valve on its inner face, the piston end of the head, nir inlet apertures in the -pehaving air inlets in the cap periphery. p ripheral wall of the head, and a vaporizing cylinder 6. An atomizer comprising a. Apiston cylinder provided operatively connected to the piston chamber.
' 5 with an imperforate piston, a central air valve in the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of 15 cylinder compression head, radially disposed apertures two witnesses. in the head supplying the valve, and a vaporizing cylinder FRANK C. DORMEN'I. operatively connected to the piston chamber. Witnesses:
7. An atomizer comprising a piston cylinder, an imper- CLEMENT R. STICKNEY,
10 foratepiston therein,'a hollow cylinder head removablyv Orfro F. BAn'rrmL.
