SAFETY PIN.
APPLICATION nun NOV.14. 190s.

I No. 863,826,-
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Aug. 20, 1907.
Apylication filed llovember 14,1906. Serial No. 343,388.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILIE AIKEn, a citizen of the" United' States, l'esidingat Roxbu-ry, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new j and useful Improvements in Safety-Pins, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This inyention relates to certain improvements in.
saietypins of brooches, the obj ectofzthe invention being to provide a means upon a safety pin or bio'och to 10 which maybe attachedthe cord of a pair of eye-glasses. The invention consists; in a device of the character hereinhefore'set forth, of the combination and arrangement oi'parts described in the follouiing specification and particularly pointed out in the claims thereof.
Refei'ring to the drawings: Figure I is a side eleyar 'tion of a safety pin constructed in accordance with my invention, witha POItiQ'n of a cord attached thereto;
eral views of the drawings- In, the drawings 5 is a plate constituting the front of the pin, Gis the :pin, 7 -a pivot uponwvhich said pin is imounted,'.said pin" being'fastened to eaIsElnpOn the irontplate 5, andt is the catch-hook. The pinfiis extended rearwardly, beyond 'the, pi vot and terminates in an eye'lO. I A ring 11 is preferably attached to the eye 10 and-an eye-glass cord 12 attached to saidring,
It will be seenthat in the'iorni of my invention heroinloeiore specifically described, any pull upon the cord 12 only serves to cause the free end of the pin 6'to more firinly a-nd securely engage the end 13 of the catchhook 9. V V The pin is'attached to the clothing in the usual mannet and. the cord is attached to the ring 11, or it such ring should be dispensed ivithsaid cord may be directly attached to; the eye 10. The eye-glasses are thus securely attached to the pin by means of said cord,
so that when said eye-glasses are not in use, 'or if they should he accidentally dl' opped, the cordand the pin would iol m a secure and practical means for preventing said eyeglasses irombeing broken.
Having thus described my invention, What' I' claiin and'desire'by Letters Patent to secure is:
Asafetypin consisting of a plate, a pin, 'and a pivot [0'1 said pin, said pin extended rearwardly beyond said pivot and terminating in an eye. 5
'In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence I of two subscribing witnesses.
EMILI 111 S. AIKEN. Witnesses.
CHARLES S. Goomnc LOUIS A. Jones.
