Description

No. 863,154. BATENTED AUG.13,1907.
- P. J. 00):. v
- GARBURETER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 7, 1908.
UNITED STATES PA OFFICE;
FREDERICK JOHN cox', OF LONDON, ENGLA D- csnsunsrnn.
v Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed I l] 7, 1906- florlal No. 315,709.
To all whom itmny concern: I Be it known that I, l nnnsiucx Jenn (.mr, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 212 Breeknoek road, 'lufnell Park, London, N., England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Carburetors, of which the following is a specification.
The invention has for its object to provhie a surface upon which the volatile liquid is to be exposed that the surface shall have a IIIOVtflllQllbWlill reference to the jet or oritice through which the volatile liquid is distributed upon it, so that .by such means-a regular and considerable interval elapses before the volatile liquid is deposited-upon the surface at any particular point,
and thus the feed of the carbureting liquid niay be regulated so as always to yield less than that which would cause the flooding of the carburetet and always amply sufficient to produce the amount of carburation req'uirerL, According to this part of the invcntion I mount the screens or surfaces upon which the volatile liquid is fed so asto have a considerableslow move-' ment in the carburetcr cas ng which movement very conveniently can be effected by means of n spindle,
course for the airfrom one side of the carburetor casing to the other, and in each of the spaces between these respective partitions a screen such as hereinafter described is mounted, a number of screens, being suspended advantageously upon a frame, which frame hasrnountcd upon it a screw sleeve which traverses the spindle aforesaid on its rotation. g g
Figure l is a view of a modtied form of carburetor.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the carburetor on line z, y (Fig. 3). Fig. 3 is a planet thecarbureterwith the top casing and gatfzescrcens removed. Fig. 4 is a erosssection of the carburetor on line-1r, y, (Fig. 3.) Fi 5 is a detail view of a gauze screens In carrying the invention into effect I provide a casing a, and I provide an inlet b and outlet 0 attire same end in opposite positions centmllyw loud the air for carburation through the tortuous course tormeo oy,
Patented Aug. 13,1907. I
the space between the vertical partitions d provided in the casing, and I provide a cover a for this casing,
having downwardly protruding sides sufficient for the} mounting, beneath the cover of the spindlef before; referred to, which I advantageously mount in boll bearing 9 to insure ease of operation. Upon this:
spindle I form reverse threads h for the purpose hereinbefore described. i
I provide the screens or surfaces 1" upon which tho" liquid is disposed for carhuratiou as wire gauze of zigzag shape in vertical section, and I preferably provide sira number of such sheets of gauze which I connect to- I gether, and the upwardly projecting extremities j thereof-I flar'e outwardly funnel-shaped for the reception of the drops of volatile liquid from the nozgies or:
jets i" which are mounted in a central position upon the cover 6 so that the volatile liquidmoy flow down the screen so formed. It will be understood that it is preferred to provide a transverse series of such nozzles k one'nozzle for each screen. Two or more of the pertitionsd may serve as guides for the rods or 'fran es l' b which the res ective screens i are so rted, and
Y P PP any suitable anti-friction devices may be used in connection therewith.
Any suitable gear may be provided for the rotation at relatively slow reciprocating movement of the con" nectcd screens. i Any other material than wire gauze may be used. What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters "Patent iszl. A cnrhureter comprising a casing, a series or screens mounted within said casing, means for reciprocating said screens and means for depositing liquid upon said screens substantially as described.
2. A earhureter comprising a casing, vertical partitions within said caslng a series of gauze screens mounted within said casing. means for reciprocating said-screens and means for depositing liquid upon said screens substuntiallyns described. y
' if. A carburetor comprising a casing, vertical partitions within soldeasing, verticalpartitions wlthtn said casing, n reverscly screwedsplntlie for reciprocating snldscreens and a series of pipes for depositing liquid upon said screens substantially as described. r
in testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to IIIIN specification in the presence of two subscribing \vitucsaes.
