UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ J. HERMANN, 0F SINGER' A/HOHENTWIEL, GER-MANY.'
THRAsrrING MACHINE.
Application filed April 30, 1926, Serial No. 105,70, and in Germany November 27, 1924.
My invention relates to improvements in thrashing machines, and more particularly to the apparatus for removing the dust. As is known to those skilled in the art such dust removing apparatus consists of sieves and fans for producing a blast of air. For cleaning the said sievesbrushes have been provided which were movable across the intake side of the sieve, and which cooperated with plates located at the delivery side of the sieves and adapted temporarily to interrupt the blast of air through the sieve so as to permit the particles of straw and the like to drop away from the sieve. The object of T the improvements is to provide an apparatus of this type which is simple in construction and effective in operation, and with this object in view my invention consists in con structing the sieve in the form of a full circle, the plates movable across the said circle being in the form of sectors mounted on a common rotary shaft.
For the purpose of explaining the invention an example embodying the same has been shown in the accompanying drawing, in which the same reference characters have been used in all the views to indicate corresponding parts. l
In said drawing,
Fig. l, is a sectional elevation showing my improved dust removing apparatus,
Fig. 2, is a sectional plan view taken on the planes indicated in Fig. l by the broken line 2 2,
Fig. 3, is a sectional elevation taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows,
Fig. 4, is a diagrammatical elevation showing a part of the thrashing machine having the dust removing apparatus mounted thereon, and
Fig. 5, is a top-plan view of Fig. 4.
In the example shown in Fig. l my improved dust removing apparatus comprises an elongated casing a provided at its left hand end with a fan b adapted to draw the air from the casing a. The bottom of the casing a is provided with two circular sieves or foraminated plates cl. In brackets lc and le and bearings Z and Z vertical shafts e are mounted, which are adapted to be rotated from a shaft m by means of bevel gear wheels n. Vith their bottom ends the said shafts are passed through central bores of the sieves or foraminated plates d, and they have spiders o keyed thereto, which spiders provide bearings for rotary cylindrical brushes g making Contact with the sieves cZ. lAbove the sieves Z plates j in the form of sectors n are keyed to the shafts e by means of comh mon hubs thesaid plates being located one above each brush g.
In Figs. i and 5 I have shown the end por tion of a thrashing machine /L in a diagram` matical way, the casing a being mounted on the said thrashing machine in connection with the .shaking chamber z' thereof. But I wish it to be understood that my invention is not limited to this construction and that the dust removing apparatus may be providto position or cleaning the sieves, the plates f interrupting the blast of air at the successive parts of the sieves, so that the particles of straw and the like removed from the bottom faces of the sieves are free to drop back into the shaking chamber.
I claim:
l. The combination, with a thrashing machine, of a dust removing apparatus comprising a circular sifting member adapted to permit the passage of the dust through the interstices thereof and to hold back larger particles, means to produce a draft of air from the thrashing machine through said sifting member, a plate located at the delivery side of saidsifting member and eX- tending from the center to the circumference thereof-and covering a part of the surface of said sifting member and mounted for being rotated about the center of said sifting member, a brush located at the intake side of the sifting member at the part thereof corresponding to said plate, and means to revolve said plate and brush around the center of said sifting member with the plate in position for covering the part of said sifting member engaged by said brush.
2. The combination, with a thrashing Inachine, of a dust removing apparatus comprising a circular sifting member adapted to permit the passage of the dust through the interstices thereof and to hold backV larger particles, means to produce a draft of air from the thrashing machine through said sifting member, plates located at the delivery side of said sifting member and eX- tending from the center to the circumference thereof and covering a part of the surface of said sifting member and mounted for being rotated about the center of said sifting member, brushes located at the intake side of they sifting member and cooperating one With each of said plates, and means to re- Volve said plates and brushes around the center of said sifting member with each plate in position for covering the portion of thesurf'ace acted upon by the cooperating brush.
3. The combination, With a thrashing machine, of a dust removing apparatus comdraft of air through the parts of the sifting y member covered thereby, and radial brushes carried by said shaft and located at the 1ntale side of said sifting member in position for cooperating one with eachA of saidY plates and acting on said sifting member at the part covered by the cooperating plate.
ln testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature.
