THEOPHILE WILDY, OF .BIELEFELD, GERMANY.
SPRAY-CARBURETEE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LTmiorninr. \VILDY, engineer, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and residing at Lickerwall 5 I, in the city of Bielefeld, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spray- Carbureters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to spray carbureters, and has for its object the provision of a device of the character set forth which shall provide a smooth running engine under all conditions of changing speed.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character set forth which is small, compact, light and easy' to manufacture.
Referring to the drawings wherein similar reference characters indicate similar parts wherever used: Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section through the device;
' and Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the line A-B of Fig. 1. v
The numeral 0. designates a suction pipe which contains a spray nozzle concentrically surrounded by a sleeve Z). he purpose of this sleeve is to reduce the cross section of the suction pipe a at its mouth, to such a degree that the air sucked in has the necessary speed. for efficiently gasifying the fuel.
The sleeve 1) is provided with a plurality of downwardly inclined channels 03, in which are provided small balls 0, in such a manner Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 6, 1914. Serial No. $22,954:.

as to be at an acute angle to the stream of air through the nozzle. The lower edges of the channels d are provided with small lowest position.
lips d, which support the balls in their J lips d as shown in Fig. 1', but upon an increase of speed, a greater suction effect is produced in the nozzle, thus causing the balls 0 to be driven upwardly in the chinnels d as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1. At this increase in the size of the air intake the flexibility of the motor s greatly increased and the mixing proportion remains practically constant through the operation of the device which, in connection with the widening of the air intake gives a higher power to the motor.
What I claim as new is In a spray carburetor, the combination with the spray nozzle, of an intake pipe surrounding said nozzle and provided with a plurality of channels, a plurality of balls in said channels and adapted under all conditions of the air suction to move away from or toward said spray nozzle, whereby to increase or diminish the cross section of said air intake. a
- In testimony whereof [have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
