PAPER-BOX MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. Mr rcnnnn, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing in the city of an endless chain of .plungers or formers New Haven, in thecounty of New Haven, in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Paper-Box Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of machines in which paper boxes are formed from blanks which are scored or cut, and the sides are bent or folded up and the glued or pasted ends are folded together over a plunger or former. i

Fig. 3. For this purpose, each finger 59 is mounted by a vertical pivot upon the upright portion 57 of a horizontal slide 58 free to reciprocate in guides 56 on the table 0. Short reciprocating motion may be applied intermittently by any suitable means from a moving part of the machine. In Figs.- 2 and 4,- I have indicated for this purpose an upright rock shaft 61 connected by a crank arm.

An important feature of the invention consists in the provision of means for imparting to the folding fingers a movement towards and from the ends of the former P,

Thus while the plunger P is descending into the blank, the latter will be supported by the wings 95, until the plunger presses the bottom of the box firmly against these wings and then pushes the latter back on their hinges, as shown in Fig. 3.
I claim as my invention 1. A paper box machine. having a plunger and die with fingers for folding the side flaps against the end walls of the plunger and means for reciprocating said fingers'in a direction across said end walls, and means for simultaneously moving the fingers towards or from said end walls.

2. A paper box machine having aplunger and die with slotted sidewalls over the die, folding fingers to be projected through such slots and having cam faces and means for intermittently projecting and withdrawing the fingers.
3. A paper box machine, having a feed table for the box blanks, a plunger and die with side walls over the die and yielding supporting wings normally held over the die flush with the surface of the feed table to support the blank while the plunger descends into it, whereby the boxes are formed with sharp corners;
