PATENTBD JULY 23, 1907.
O. MOGRADYY. PORTABLE SUSPFNDING HOOK.

OWEN MCGRADY, OF KENDALL, MONTANA.
PORTABLE SUSPENDING-I-IOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1907.
Application led September l., 1906. Serial No. 332,982.
To all whom it may concer Be it known that I, OWEN MCGRADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kendall, in the county of Fergus and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable suspending-Hooks, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to hooks and more particularly to ceiling and wall hooks, for hanging lamps, harness and etc., the object being to provide a swivel hook which can be easily and quickly secured in the wall or ceiling without the use of tools.
Another object of my invention is to provide the hook with a screw-driver so that the supporting screw can be quickly secured into the' ceiling or wall.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification:- Figaire l is a perspective view of my improved hook attached to a ceiling. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional View of the hook attached to a ceiling. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of the hook dropped so that it can turn. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view of the hook shoved up into engagement with the screw. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the hook. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the swivel block. Fig. 7 is an inverted perspective view of the same.
Referring to the drawing A indicates a round hookV provided with a flat portion A, having a central recess A2, provided with a central cross-bar A3, forming a screw-driver. A block B provided with an upwardly extending portion B, is secured on the flat portion A by screws C passing through an opening B2, in the block into threaded bores A4 formed in the flat portion Af.
A central bore B3 is formed in the block B provided with an annular recess B4 at its upper end and a tapering recess B5 at its lower end in which the head of an ordinary screw D, is adapted to fit which extends up through the bore B3` A disk E provided with a central enlargement E having a threaded bore E2 extending therethrough, is adapted to work on the screw D and is provided with a reduced end E3 adapted to fit in the annular recessB4 of the block B.
It will be readily seen that by turning the recess until the slot of the head drops over the screw-driver of the hook, the screw can be quickly secured into the ceiling or wall as the case may be, forcing the disk against the ceiling or wall. The hook will then drop by its own weight until the screw driver is out of the head of the screw, so that it will turn readily when desired.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very novel swivel hook which is very simple and cheap in construction and one which is very effective in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
l. The combination with a screw, of a hook loosely mounted on said screw and means carried by said hook for operating said' screw, for the purpose described.
2. The combination with a screw, of a hook looselyV mounted on said screw, and a cross-bar carried by said hook adapted to engage said screw, for the purpose described.
3. The combination with a screw, of a block loosely mounted on said screw carrying a hook and a bar carried by said hook adapted to engage said screw for turning the same, for the purpose described.
4. The combination with a screw, of a block loosely mounted on said screw carrying a hook provided with a recess and a bar arranged across said recess adapted to engage said screw, for turning the same.
5. In a device of thekind described, the combination with a screw carrying a block, of a hook carried by said block, and operating means carried by said hook for turning said screw, for the purpose described.
6. The combination with a screw, of a disk mounted on said screw and a block cari-ying a hook loosely mounted on said screw provided with a bar for turning said screw.
7. The combination with a screw, of a disk mounted on said screw, a block loosely mounted on said screw carrying a hook provided with a recess, and a cross bar arranged in the recess of said hook adapted to engage said screw, for turning the same.
8. The combination with a screw, of a disk working on said screw provided with a lug, a block loosely mounted on said screw provided with a recess adapted to receive said lug, and a hook carried by said' block provided with operating means for turning the screw.
9. The combination with a screw, of a disk working on said screw provided with a lug, a block' loosely mounted on said screw provided with a recess adapted to receive said lug, and a hook carried by said block provided with a bar in a recess adapted to engage said screw, for the purpose described.
10. The combination with a screw, of a disk carried by said screw provided with a lug, a block rotatably and slidably' mounted on said screw `provided with a recess adapted to receive said lug, and a recess adapted to receive the head of the screw a hook carried by said block provided with a recess, and a bar arranged across said recess adapted to engage said screw for the purpose described.
11. The combination with a screw, of a disk working on said screw provided with a lug having a reduced end, a block loosely mounted on said screw provided with a recess adapted to receive said lug, and a flat portion provided with a recess to receive the head of the ,screw a hook provided with a fiat portion having a recess formed therein secured to the flat portion of said block by screws .anda bar arranged across said recess adapted to lit in the head of the screw, for the purpose described.
