Description

No. 859,861. PATENTED JULY9,1907.
l P. WESTEEEEGK. v
SEEET METAL VESSEL.
'- nPLmuIoNEILED1m15.190s.
FREDERICK WESTERBEOK, OF ST. LOUIS, MlSSOURI.
SHEET-METAL VESSEL.
Specification `of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1907.
Application tiled February 5, 1906. Serial No. 299.474.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK WESTERBECK, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Metal Vessels, 0f which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to sheet metal vessels, and has particular reference to means whereby the covers of vessels of this kind may be securely attached to the bodies of the vessels in such manner that they may be removed without detriment to either the bodies or covers.
Figure I is a perspective view of the upper portion of a vessel constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. Il is a vertical section taken through the upper portion of the vessel. Fig. III is an elevation of a nodiflcation of the vessel.
l designates the body of my Vessel and'2 the cover which is preferably so formed as to -be insertible into the open upper end of said body. The cover is preferably provided with an annular rim 3.
4 is one of a series of brackets secured to the vessel body adjacent to the upper end thereof. Any desired number of these brackets may be used, but I prefer where the vessely is in the form of a bucket to employ two of the brackets located at diametrically opposite positions and in such case the brackets are provided with perforations so that they constitute ears adapted to receive a bail 5. l
Each of the brackets 4 is provided at its upper side with a screw threaded aperture 4/ (see Fig. Il).
6 are draft screws that pass through the rim 3 of the vessel cover and are adapted to be screwed into the screw threaded apertures 4 of the brackets 4 for the purpose of drawing the cover tightly tothe body of the vessel, thereby securing a perfect closure of the vessel.
In the modication illustrated in Fig. III, the vessel is shown in the form of a can and has the body l that is provided with a plurality of brackets 4Et which are similar in form to the brackets 4 but are not provided with perforations to receive a bail. In other respects the construction in this modification corresponds to the construction previously described and in which 2 is the vessel cover and 6 the draft screws.
I claim:
In a vessel, the combination of a body, brackets secured to said body and provided with bail receiving perforations at their sides, and screw receiving apertures at their tops, a bail ttedin said perforations, a cover fitted to said body and provided with a rim, and draft screws passing through said cover rim and seated in saidv screw receiving apertures,
substantially as set forth.
FREDERICK WESTERBECK. In presence of- NELLIE V. ALEXANDER, BLANCHE HOGAN.
