NAPKIN-HOLDER.
Application fil d October 16,1906. fierial No. 339,245.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Orro GASSER, a citizen of the German Empire, and residing at Magdeburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkin-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates to improvements in napkin holders and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device by which a napkin may be easily suspended from the neck of the user and which will not easily become broken or out of order.
The invention includes the construction hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is an elevation partly in section with the bows upturned and showing one of the bows sprung out in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same folded and packed in an inclosing case, Fig. 3 is a view illustrating the manner in which the device is used.
The device comprises a bar or member a which has projections or ears b at opposite ends which carry the hinge pins 0 upon which are pivotally mounted the side bushes (1. Each bush carries a spring wire e, the free ends of these wires being curved inwardly towards each other as shown in Fig. 1. They are provided at their ends with knobs f and on each wire between the bush d and the knob f is located a helical spring g. The bar a carries an attaching device such for instance as a pin Z hinged at its end It to the projection h and having its pointed end engaging a retaining device such as m by which the napkin may be secured to the bar a. The spring g serves to strengthen the wire a so as to avoid the breaking off thereof where said wire is bent and further to prevent said wire 0 from coming in contact with the neck.
The bushes d preferably have inclined surfaces which bear against the projections b and limit the outward swinging movement of the bushes. With a construction such as above described a very simple, durable and efficient holder is provided in which there is little danger of the breaking of the wires when they are swung outwardly for encircling the neck of the wearer owing to their being protected by the bushes. Further, the coil wires 9 while not interfering at all with the resiliency of the arms afford a broad bearing or contact surface with the neck.
A device constructed as shown may also be packed into compact spaces for shipping, it being shown in an enclosing case 0 in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:- l
A napkin holder comprising a bar a, means for holding a napkin carried thereby, a bush (1 hinged to each end of the bar a, a spring wire 0 carried by each bush, said wires having their free ends curved towards each other and a spirally wound wire surrounding each of the wires 0.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OTTO GASSER.
