APPLICATION FILED NOV. 3.1905.

CLARA CATHERINE HEID, OF JUNEAU, DISTRICT OF ALASKA.
BUST-SUPPORTING- GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1907.
Application filed November 3, 1905. Serial No. 285,694.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA CATHERINE HEID, a citizen of the United States, residing at Juneau, District of Alaska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bust-Supporting Garments, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to apparel, and has for its object the production of a garment adapted for use by per sons wearing corsets, more particularly of the low bust type, for supporting the bust; the garment, in its preferred form, consisting of a vest of inelastic material extending vertically from the waist line of the wearer, above the top of the corset and to a line passing closely under the armpits.
The invention in detail is set forth in the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In the drawingFigure l is a perspective view of a bust-supporting garment, embodying the invention, fastened on a wearer. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the garment in open condition.
Referring to the drawing by letter, A designates the bust-supporting garment, consisting of the body portion a having the form shown shown in Fig. 2 and made from inelastic material, such as muslin, whereby stretching is prevented. The body portion is formed of two pieces of material sewed together at the fitting line b and having properly disposed darts c to obtain conformation to the figure of the wearer. At its bottom edge, the body portion is provided with a hem (l, and is hemmed or reinforced at its meeting edges 8, j", which are equipped with buttons 9 and holes h whereby the garment is fastened. At the top edge of the garment is a hem 5 through which extends a drawing string j.
The garment is worn as shown in Fig. 1. It covers the corset above the waist line, and extends above the corset top and above the bust line to a line passing closely under the armpits. The string j is drawn more or less tightly and tied at its ends, as shown, and the bust is thus firmly supported regardless of the height of the corset. The garment is designed more particu larly for women of fleshy build, and by its provision, the low bust corset may be worn equally well by women of large and small bust measures, and without the necessity of providing shoulder straps or equivalent means for maintaining the garment in place.
I claim as my invention A bust-supporting garment, consisting of a band of in elastic material having means for fastening it around the wearer above the waist line, and extending at its upper edge to a line passing closely under the armpits and ter minating thereat, and having a drawing string at said upper edge whereby the same may be worn with a low bodice.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CLARA CATHERINE HEID.
