I make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has for its objects the provision of a rail support which cran be produced with a minimum amount of material, at a minimum cost, give a maximumsupport to the rails, distribute thel train load evenly over the road-bed, be simple in constructiom have maximum life, etc., which objects I attain in the construction and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described in detail, and later pointed out in the appended claims.

The structlire shown, comprises a pair of parallel disposed members or ties l, which in this instance are shown as formed of inverted T beams, selected as best adapted to carry out my invention. The ties are connected to one another by a pair of rail supporting members 2, the supporting portion proper extending along in a horizontal plane at an elevation above the ties, said members being pressed into f orm from a sheet metal blank, as shown at, Fig. VI, said form having end walls 3, with laterally disposed portions 3, inclined side walls 4, with a space 5 between the ends of the same' and the end walls, to engage over the upturned web of the tie members, said sides terminating in the laterally disposed portions 6, the extremities 7 of which are bent upwardly and thence downwardly over the webs of the tie members and extensions 3 of the end walls, the structure being secured to the tic members by rivets 8 or other means. Each of these supporting members is provided at the top with openings 8, which extend longitudinally therethrough, into which openings are placed the rail clamping members 9, to engage the rails l0, said members each having an opening 11 formed through the downwardly extended flange p0r- `one another by a pair tion near each end thereof and registering with the aforesaid openings or spaces 5 of the supporting member, into which openings and spaces are driven split-- keys 12, thus firmly securing the rails in position upon the supporting members.
The structure is admirably adapted to fuliil the objects set forth, being buried in the road-bed to a point approximately on alevel with the base of the rails, presenting a neat appearance.
Having thus fully shown and described a practical and operative means to carry out my invention, what I claim is- 1. The Acombination of u pair of cross-ties connected to one another by -a pair of hollow ruil supporting members extending to an elevation above the ties in parallel relation with the rails, and means to secure the rails thereto.

3. The combination of a pair of cross-ties connected to one another by a pair of hollow rail supporting members extending to an elevation above the ties and in parallel relation with the rails, a pair of rail engaging members carried by said supporting members, and means to secure said rail members to said supporting members.
. 4. The combination of a pair of cross-ties connected to one another-'by a pair of hollow rail supporting members extending to and on a plane in parallel relation with the rails, rail engaging members carried by said supports,
and means to secure the rail members to the supporting members.
5. The combination of a pair of cross-ties .connected to one another by a pair of rail supporting members extending to an elevation above the ties in parallel relation with the rails, and means between the rails and-supporting members to secure the rails thereto.

The combination of a pair of cross-ties connected to one another by' a pair of rail supporting members extending to an elevation above the ties and in parallel relation with the rails, a pair of rail engaging members arranged between the rails and supporting members, and means to secure the same`thereto.
7.
