ATTACHMENT FOR WASHBASlNS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed June 7, 1906. Serial No. 320,591.
1'0 alt wltom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAooB TREAGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for WVashbasins and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a trap attachment for washbasins, sinks and the like.
Its object is to provide a simple and easily accessible strainer and collector which can be interposed between the outlet from the basin and the drain or discharge pipe, for the purpose of catching sundry small things which, passing through the outlet from the bowl or sink, would otherwise be lost or would tend to clog up the discharge pipe.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which A represents a bowl or sink of well known description having the usual underneath nipple 2 surrounding the discharge orifice 3.
B is an imperforate casing of suitable size, shape and material open at the bottom, and having a screw-threaded opening in the top to allow it to be screwed or otherwise suitably fastened to the nipple 2 of the bowl. A screen or perforated cylinder 4 of suitable construction its loose up into the casing, and a screw plug 5 is adapted to close the bottom of the casing and press the foraminous cylinder 4 snug up against the top of the casing sothat no water can escape from the bowl into the drain pipe 6 except through the screen. i
The drain pipe 6 is suitably connected to the casing B at any convenient or desired point. For various reasons it is preferred to have the outlet from the casing into the drain pipe at a point as near the lower end of the casing as possible.
By this simple little attachment, all the things such as hair, bits of soap, etc., which do so much ordinarily to clog up the trap, are caught and can be easily removed by any one at any time.
If any small article of value is dropped into the bowl and falls through outlet 3, it can be quickly regained by unscrewing the plug 5 and removing the cylinder.
In order to insure plenty of space always around the foraminous cylinder, I may provide the lugs or spacing devices 7 on the inside of the casing.
It is possible that various changes may be made in the construction of the various parts of my device without altering the principle of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a basin, of a receptacle open at the bottom and having a restricted neck-portion at the top provided with an inlet opening, said neck externally threaded to receive a union for the connection of the receptacle to the basin, said receptacle having a lateral discharge, the interior of the receptacle provided with inwardly projecting spacing lugs, a cylindrical screen fitting up through the bottom of the receptacle and supported by said lugs out of contact with the sides of the receptacle, said cylindrical screen surrounding the inlet in said neck, and a screw plug fitting the receptacle and supporting the lower end of the screen and holding the same against the top of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit nesses.
JACOB TREAGER.
