UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DON J. HIGGINBOTI-IAM, OF RIALTO, FLORIDA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO LEWIS'H. LOCKLAR, OF RIALTO, FLORIDA.
BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1907.
Application filed March 3, 1906. Serial No. 304,035.
To all whom, 2126 may concern: 7
Be it known that I, DoN J. I-IIGGINBOTHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rialto, in the county of Lee and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
bottle with a neck 2 provided with a bead 2 on its upper end having an internal surrounding marginal groove or seat 3, said neck also having inner and outer opposed marginal grooves forming in said neck a frangible point 4.
Seated in the neck 2 is a main cork stopper 5 and arranged opposite the frangible point 4 as shown, there being also seated in the neck above the stopper 5 a second or auxiliary stopper 6, preferably composed of glass and having formed in its side wall at a point between its ends a continuous inclined recess 7 posite the frangible portion 4, after which the auxiliary stopper 6 is inserted and fixed in place owing to the engaging portion 10 of locking member 8 springing into the recess 3.
It is apparent that under this arrangement when it is desired to remove the contents of the bottle the neck must first be broken at the points 4 in order to permit removal of the stopper 5, and that therefore the substitution of one grade of goods for another in the bottle is rendered impracticable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A bottle comprising the neck with a head having an internal surrounding groove, said neck being also provided with diametrically opposite inner and outer grooves, a cork stopper mounted in the neck and extending midway above said opposite inner and outer grooves, a glass stopper also mounted in said neck and spaced apart from the cork stopper and having its upper surface flush With the upper surface of the neck, said stopper being provided With a continuous inclined recess formed in one side thereof, a straight retaining spring having on its lower end a right an" gular projection which is embedded part Way into the body portion of the glass stopper so as to hold the spring in position Within the recess, said spring also having at its upper end a straight projection arranged at right angles with the straight portion of the spring,
and said inclined recess serving to give the' straight body portion of the spring an inclined bend to permit of the upper pro ection thereon to engage the groove in said head, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DON J. HIGGINBOTI-IAM.
