Description

No. 857,063. PATENTED JUNE 18, 1907.
K. HOFMANN.
HEATING DEVICE FOR GAMP COOKING APPARATUS. APPLICATION FILED um. 28, 1907.
KASPAR HOFMANN, OF MUNICH, GERMAWY.
HEATING DEVICE FOR CAMP COOKING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1907.
Application filed January 28, 1907. Serial No. 354,496-
.T0 at whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, KASPAR HOFMANN, a subject of the German Empire, residing at Munich, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Heating Devices for Camp Cooking Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved construction of heating device for camp-cooking apparatus. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the ac companying drawing, in Which Figure 1 is a cross section and Fig. 2 a plan of a heating device constructed in accordance with this invention.
Similar letters refer to similar throughout the several views.
Referring to the figures generally, this improved heating device consists chiefly of a tin box a, of a collapsible tube made of real or artificial gut Z) (bladders or the like) charged with liquid fuel, for instance methylated spirits, benzin, petroleum and the like and placed worm like upon the bottom into the said tin box and of a layer of powder 0 for instance finely powdered sugar sprinkled over the said tube. The said tube is tied up at short distances apart from each other with twine, sausage-like, which causes the tube to retain its position and should it be leaking prevents the escape of the whole of the fuel therefrom.
The device described is used and operates as follows :-l/Vhen it is intended to use the device the lid shown in Fig. 1 in dotted lines is removed, a few small holes are pricked into the top surface of the said tube by a needle which causes the fuel in the tube to mix with parts the fuel, thereby increasing the intensity of p the heat and insuring a constant flame. The said layer prevents the heat generated also from burning or bursting the said tube. To prevent the said tube sweating or evaporating the fuel during long storage of the device, it is rendered impervious by suitable substances. Flour, salt or coke dust may also be used for the said layer.
This heating device may be made in any suitable size, for instance in pocket form for the use of tourists. The said layer may also consist of a combination of materials in lieu of only one.
The flame is extinguished in the usual manner by placing the lid onto the tin.
I claim:
A heating device for camp-cooking apparatus comprising a tin box, a collapsible tube charged with liquid fuel and placed upon the bottom in the said tin, and a layer ofpowdered material over the said tube, all combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
KASPAR HOFMANN.
