NECK AND CHEST PROTECTOR.
APPLICATION TILED JULY 30. 1906.
I/VVENTOR WI T/VESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFF ICE.
NATHAN NEUMAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
NECK AND CHEST PROTECTOR.
A No. 856,720.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1907.
Application filed July 30, 1906. Serial No. 328,283.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN NEUMAN, a subject of the Emperor of Russia, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neck and Chest Protectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an article of wearing apparel adapted to be applied in such a way as to completely protect the neck and chest and at the same time rest flat against the body at all points of contact.
Another object of my invention is to enable said article to be attached in a different manner so that the front of the neck will be left exposed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view of the preferred form of the protector when the same is not in use, the same being spread out flat and the inside face of the protector exposed to view. Fig. 2 is a view illustrating one of its methods of application.
The protector consists of the following parts: The body comprising the central portion a and the integral end portions or wings I; and c; the flap cl secured at one end diagonally to the inside face of the central portionct and near the end thereof adjacent to the end portion 6; the pair of fastening pins a secured to the outside face of the flap d contiguous to the upper corner thereof, the pair of eyelets f secured diagonally contiguous to, the opposite end of the central portion on the inside face thereof; the fastening head 9 secured to the outside face of the end portion 1) of the body contiguous to the upper edge thereof; and the eyelet h secured to the inside face of the end portion 0 of the body contiguous to the upper edge thereof. The fastening heads and eyelets are preferably attached to the several members of the protector by being attachedrespectively to separate strips i secured to the protector. The lower edge of the body is scalloped, so as to narrow the protector at the junction between the central portion and each end portion.
In applying the protector to the neck, the flap is placed in the position shown in Fig. 1 and the protector placed against the back of the neck and the ends brought forward, causing the central portion a of the protector to .lie against substantially the rear half of the neckf'g The flap (1 is thenfl drawn aboutjthe front half of the neck, and the headse snapped into the eyeletsf. The central portion a of the body, and flap (Z, thus together form a muifier encircling the neck. The ends a and b of the body are then brought down diagonally toward each other and over the chest so as to overlap and the head 9 snapped into the eyelet h. The end portions of the body thus form a chest protector. If it is not desired to inclose the front of the neck, the flap (Z is not brought forwardly and its free end fastened to the body at f as before described, but the flap is maintained in position against the underside of the body as shown in Fig. 1. The end portions are then brought diagonally forward to overlap as before described, the flap d remaining concealed from View under the end portion 6.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. A neck and breast protector comprising a body having end wings adapted to extend down over the chest and also a middle portion, and a flap connected to the body on one side of its transverse center and adapted, with the middle portion of the body, to encircle the neck.
2. A neck andbreast protector comprising a body having end wings adapted to extend down over the chest and also a middle portion, a flap connected, near the juncture of the middle ortion and one wing, to the inside face of t e body along one edge in a diagonal direction with respect to the body, and complementary fastening devices secured respectively to the free end of the flap and to the inside face of the body near the junction of the middle portion and the other wing.
3. A neck and breast protector comprising a muffler adapted to encircle the neck and wings adapted to extend over the chest, the rear half of the neck muffler being integral with and located between the wings and the front half of the neck muffler being stitched to its rear half at approximately the juncture of the latter with one of said wings.
4. A neck and breast protector comprising a body provided with complementary fastening devices near opposite ends thereof, said fastening devices being on opposite faces of the body, a third fastening device between the transverse center of the body and one of the first named fastening devices, and a flap ITO connected, at one end, to the body between the latters transverse center and the other of the first named fasteningdevices.
5. A neck and breast protector comprising the following: a body composed of a central portion and integral end portions, the body being scalloped along its lower edge, thus reducing the Width of the body where the central portions merge into the end portions; a flap one end of which is secured diagonally to the inside of the central portion of the body near the end thereof adjacent to one of the end portions; a set of complementary fastening devices one of which is secured to the outside face of the flap contiguous to the upper corner thereof, while the other is secured to the inside face of the central portion ond set of complementary fastening devices,
one being secured to the outside face of one of. the end portions of the body and contiguous to the upper edge thereof, and the other being secured to the inner face of the other end portion contiguous to its upper end.
In testimony of which invention, I have hereunto set my hand, at Philadelphia, on this26th day of July, 1906'.
, NATHAN hUEUIVIAN.
