M. 1, MOS'HER.
Cooking Stove. v No.185, 603. r Patented Jan. 5, 1869.
N PETERS, PWJTO-UTWPHER, WASHINGTQN. MC.
- To all iohom it'ma/y concern:
ifinitd Show MARTIN J. MOSHER, OF TROY, NEW YORK Letters. Patent No. 85,603, dated January 5, 1869'.
nwPRovEMnNi' IN cooKmG-s'rovEs.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
I ing parts.
Figme 1 is a perspective view of a cooking-stove con taining and showing my invention and improvements,
more fully hereinafter described and set forth.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section throughthe centre of a cooking-stove containing my invent-ion and imrovements and more clearl Y showiw the reservoir A heating-oven O, ash-pan drawer D, and damper E, each being more fully hereinafter described and set forth.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of a cooking-stove containing my invention and improvemerrts, hereinafter set forth, and more fully described and specified. Figure 4 is a view of the plate which divides and separates the heating-oven 0 from the back ovenL, and showing the dampers or ventilators N N, hereinafter more fully described.
The nature of mysaid invention and improvement consists in the employment of the horizontal-sliding covers'or lids B and B, in connection and in combination with the reservoir A, subsitantially in the manner and for the purposes hereinafter fully described and set forth.
It also consists in the use of the slots or notches F and F, in combination with the flue or space H, fig. 2, by means of which the steam is allowed to escape from the reservoir A, substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein fully described and set forth.
It also consists in forming a heating or baking-oven, C, under the reservoir A, and above the ash-pit of the stove, in the manner and for the purposes hereinafter fully described and-specified.
It also. consists in the employment of the dampers or openings N N, between the back oven L and the reservoir or water-tank A situated in front of the firebox of the stove. v
The said sliding covers, B and B, are made of castiron, the same size and shape as the top plate of the stove, and slide freely backwards and forwards over. the
top of the reservoir A, being held in place and position.
by means of the cornice I, which projects over the edge of the stove for that-purpose.
If desired, one cover or lid may be used instead of two, in which case the same would slide on the top of the stove, parallel with the length of said stove.
The slots F and F are cut in the top of the reservoir A, and of any shape and size deemed best, and, when the lids B and'B are closed over the top of the reservoir, the steam arising from the waterin said reservoir will pass through said slots F and F, and down the fluespace H, into the hearth of the stove, from whence it will pass into the firebox, to aid combustion, or escape into the'open air.
The'oven O is formed by means of the plate K, which passes from one side of the stove to the other, and just above the top of the ash-pan drawer, and the space between said plate K and the bottom of the reservoirA forms the oven 0, which can be used for heating, baking, or other purposes. i
E, figs. 2 and 3, is a damper in the rear plate of the oven 0, through which a poker or raker may pass, when it is desired to rake the fire, 850.
N and N ,fig. 4, show dampers .in the plate between the two ovens O and L, which are for the purpose of ventilating and regulating the heat between and in the said ovens. Said dampers or openings may be of any size and shape that will best answer the required purpose.
Having thus described the natln'e of my said invention and improvements,
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-- l. The employment of the sliding covers or lids B and B, or their equivalents, in combination with the reservoir A, in the manner and for the purposes substantially as herein described and set .forth.
2. The opening or damper E, in combination with the oven 0, situated below thereservoir A, and above the ash-pan drawer D, each being constructed and operated substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein described and specified.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, this 17th day of December, A. D. 1867..
MARTIN J. MOSHER.
