provided with a handle that can be adjusted to stand at any desired angle. Second, to provide a safety razor having a spring-controlled handle that can be quickly adjusted to stand at any desired angle to the body of the razor.
And third, to provide a safety razor that is pivotally attached to its handle, and that can be tilted and adjustably set to stand at any desired angle to the handle the user may desire while shaving with it. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in th accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of asafety razor embodying mypreferred'form of adjustable handle. Fig. 2 is a transverse, sectional view taken centrally through the blade supporting body, showing the handle pivoted thereto, the razor. blade and retainmg means, being omitted.
Similarletters of reference refer to similar parts throughoutthe several views.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1,
- in general, designates thefbody of the safety 1 razor, and 2 designates the handle. The
body portion L-is generally made-of metal, preferably of a thin sheet metal, although of any suitable material, 'The body portion is composed .of the cutter holder 3 which is adated to support a razorgblade'throu'gh the me ium of the side s rings 3A and thecli 3B. This razor blade an the means by whic it is supported by the'razor body do not however, form a part of my present-invention, as they are in public use. Thebody ortion also is provided with-a housing 4, which is curved downwardly from the to of the cutter holder 3, to form a support for t e handle.
' Through the housing portion 4, adjacent to its end, I form a slot 5, which in length extends throughout thegreater portion of the width of the housing. The lower edge of this slot is formed into'a plurality of notches 6, preferably arranged in successive-order close togetheraeross' the length of the slot.
. Specification of Letters. Patent.
razor, and is arranged and adapted to form The Q neck of the user, thereby ver upper edge of this slotpreferably comprises,
. hPatented may e1',19o 7.".
an introverted tongue portion 7, which is curved under the edge of the slotand extends up under the housing toward the top of the cutter holding portion of the bodyof the a spring, and this spring tongue portion may be formed integral with the housing back of the body of the razor when the housing is" made of a suitable springing metal. It may also be made separate fromthe housing and secured to the housing.' r
Totheinside-of the upper ortion of the housing above the slot and a jacent to the i .70
upper end of the cutter holding portion of therazor, I pivotally secure by a pin or screw- 'or rivet 8, one end'of the handle 2, the oppo- 'site end of which extends loosely through the slotin the housing far enough to form a hand grasping handle for holding and guiding the body of the razor.
The under side of the handle is provided with a slightly depending lug portion 9,
which is adapted to fit intothe notches 6, of I 180 the lower ed e of the slot. The spring tongue 7, is a apted to bear against the u'pper surfaceof the handle 2, with sufhcient resilient pressure to normally hold the lug 9 'of the handle inengagementwith the notches formed in the lower edge of the slot. A
The handle is fre to swing on its pivotal center from one end of the slot in the housing to its opposite end, but is held under constant resi ient tension againstthe loweredge of. the slot, and with its depending lug in'enga ement with someone notch of the lower e ge' of the slot, and the spring tongue is arranged and adapted to exert just enough frictional resilient tension on the handle to hold it whenever it is set a ainst accidental movement under such pu ling or drawingstrains as the razor is SIllJJGCl to in sha'vin 1 The o eration is as follows: 'Fhe safety razor is 'eldby its handle in the hand of abe made of any suitable spring metal, and be man shaving, the same as if the handle were rigidly secured to the body of the razor, and the user cants or swings the body of the razor on the ivotal'pin-of' the handle to stand at any esired angle to the handle, or
chan es it to stand atvari'ous angles to the m 5 hand e, best adapted to cause the cutting blade of the razor to fit most naturally against. the profile of the face and chin and eatly facilitating the comfort and ease o s aving.
My invention is simple, thoroughly PPS/C1- tical, and permits any angular adjustment required to be very quick-1y made.
Having described in-yinvention, What I claiin'as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent,is: r
1 In a safety razor, the coinbination'of a razor blade supporting body, a. slot in said body, ahandle extending through said slot and pivotally secured at its end to said body; a notched surface on said body, means 0011-, nected With said handle for engaging said notched surface, and a spring connected to said razor body for holding said handle in irictional engagement With said notched surace. a 2. In a safety-razor, the combination of Vided With a housing portion, a slot in said housing, with a handle projecting through said slot and piyotally-connected at-its inner sure in said notches.
, I p in presence of two Witnesses.
the razor blade, the supporting-body pr0-, n a Witnesses:
the lower edge of said slot in which-said handle isadapted, to fit, and a tongue? portion formed on t'heup'per lip-of'said slot, and arranged to bear resiliently against said handle and hold it by aresilient frictional pres- 3. In a. safety razor, the combinationof the razor .b ody provided 'With af'slot, the handle pivotally secured in said razorbody and" projecting through said slot, afnotched sur face on said razor lbodyadanted to receive said handle, and means for releasably and .adjustablysecurin'g said handle {at different anglililar or tilted positions to' said razor body.
