BOTTLE-CLOSURE.

To all whom, it natty concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN SLONKA, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at New York city, Manhattan borough, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Closures, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
This invention relates to a bottle closure and has for an object to provide a simple and inexpensive stopper which .will be air-tight and at the same time so arranged and operated as to prevent complete separation from the stopper seat.
To these and other ends which will hereinafter appear my invention comprises the novel features of improvement and combination and arrangement of parts which I will now proceed to describe and finally claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, wherein Figure 1 illustrates a side elevation partly in section, of the upper portion of a bottle, embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is an end view thereof looking from the'left; Fig. 3 is an end view thereof looking from the right; Fig. 4 is an enlarged side elevation of the lower end of the lever for operating the stopper.
Similar letters or numerals of reference are intended to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to Fig. 1 the numeral 1 indicates the upper portion of a bottle which is provided with an ordinary outlet 2. The top of the bottle 1 is provided with a cylindrical auxiliary neck 3 transversely disposed thereon, the bore or stopper seat 4 of which communica'tes with the opening 2 of the bottle 1. WVithin the bore 4, a stopper or valve 5 is accurately fitted or ground and is adapted for longitudinal movement therein. The stopper or valve 5 is provided with a shoulder 6 which limits the inward movement of the said stopper or valve 5. From the shoulder 6 a jaw 7 extends, in which is fitted the upper end S of an operating lever 9; the lower end of the said lever terminates in a broadened portion 1.0 against which a finger may be pressed. A spring 11 is attached to the said portion 10 as at 12. The free end of said spring is adapted to contact the neck of the bottle 1 and exert sufficient pressure to keep Specification of Letters Patent.

the stopper 5 closed under ordinary conditions. Intermediate of the ends 8 and 10 of the lever 9, a fulcrum pin or screw 13 is positioned the said pin or. screw being carried by a clamp 14 which passes around the neck of the bottle and is secured in position by the said fulcrum pin or screw 13. For the purpose of keeping the stopper 5 closed against undue forces during transportation, I provide the lower end 10 of the lever 9 with a pivotal link 15, the said link being carried by a hub 16 as shown in Fig. 1. The link 15 is shown as contacting the bottle 1, thereby locking the lever 9 and holding the stopper 5 firmly closed. The dotted lines A in said Fig. 1 show said link 15 as being thrown out of engagement with the bottle 1, thereby allowing for manipulation of the lever 9 and stopper 5. The free end of the auxiliary neck 3 is provided with a pivotally mounted cover 17 which, by means of the arms 18 thereupon, is pivotally attached to the hub 19 carried by the neck 3.
In order to prevent corrosion due to chemical action of acids upon a metal stopper, I make this stopper 5 of glass which, as has been hereinbefore stated, is ground with the stopper seat in any suitable manner. The cover 17 may be of metal or hard rubber, In order to pour out the contents of the bottle 1, it is but necessary to press the lever 9 toward the bottle, which will cause the stopper 5 to move away from opening 2 of the neck 3 as shown by dotted lines B in Fig. 1. As herein shown the auxiliary neck 3 is integral with the neck of the bottle 1. As shown in Fig. 1, the cover 17 is connected to the upper end 8 of the 1ever 9, by the rod 20 and arm 21, consequently when the stopper 5 is opened the said cover will also open, it being pivoted to the lug 19. WVhen the stopper 5 is caused to close the opening 2, the cover 17 will also close, and be held closed by the said rod 20.
Having now described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottle provided with an auxiliary neck transversely of the opening in the said bottle and communicating therewith, a movable stopper within said neck adapted to close the opening in said bottle, and means lllor c1 perating said stopper exteriorly of the ott e.
2. A bottle provided with an auxiliary neck transversely of the opening in said bottle and communicating therewith, the mouth of said auxiliary neck being provided with a movable cover, a movable stopper within said neck adapted to close the opening in said bottle, and means for operating said stopper exteriorly of the bottle. r
3. A bottle provided with an auxiliar neck transversely of the opening in said bottle and communicating therewith, a movable stopper within said neck and adapted to close the opening in said bottle, and means for actuating said stopper, said means comprising a lever connected to said stopper and bottle.
4. A bottle provided with an auxiliary neck transversely of the opening in said bottle and communicating therewith, a movable stopper within said neck adapted to close the opening in said bottle, a spring-pressed lever adapted to actuate said stopper, and means for maintaining said stopper against premature opening.
5. A bottle provided with an auxiliary neck transversely of the opening in said bottle and communicating therewith, a movable stopper within said neck adapted to close the opening in the bottle, a spring-pressed lever adapted to actuate said stopper, and a pivoted link carriedby the lever adapted to impinge upon the bottle, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. A bottle provided with an auxiliary neck transversely of the opening in said bottle and communicating therewith, the mouth of said auxiliary neck being provided with a movable cover, a movable stopper within said neck adapted to close the opening in said bottle, and means for operating said stopper exteriorly-of the bottle, said cover being connected to said stopper operating means and adapted for simultaneousmovement therewith.
