Be it known that l, HENRY E. VAN Vasen, a citizen of the VUnited States, and a resident of Great Bend, in the county of Susquehanna and State of Pennsylvania., have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Combined lrlusic-Racks and lieaf-lurners, of which the following is a specification.

A coil spring 26 is mounted on the rod 22, one end thereof hearing against the keeper 241- and 'the other end against a collar 27 secured on said shaft and therehy holding the turned down end Z5" of said rod normally in engagement with the keeper and the turned in ond 20il of the rod lf) .normally out of engagement with 'the spring delent lli.

against the end 251L of the rod 22 sliding said rod to the right against the action of the spring 26 and through the medium of its pivoted connection with the rod 1Q slides said rod to the left bringing the end 2O;L thereof against the spring detent 16 between the upturned end of the leaf turning arm bearing against the nose 17 and the upturned end of the adjacent leaf turning arm, thereby moving said detent to the left and releasing the front leaf turning arm to turn over its leaf while restraining the other leaf turning arms behind it, after which the knee of the operator is moved out of contact with the end 25L of the rod 22 allowing the spring 26 to again expand and restore the rods 19 and 22 and the arm 21 to their normal positiions.

I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise details and arrangements of parts shown and described, but reserve the right -to all modifications within the scope of my invention.

Having new described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a device of the character set forth, a base having in its front face a central recess, recesses leading therefrom through its ends and recesses leading therefrom through its top, a fixed shaft in said central recess, spring leaf turning arms, one end of each being wound loosely around said shaft and being secured to said base and the other end eX- tending upwardly through 4a recess leading through the top of the base, a spring detent for restraining said arms in normal position, a reciprocal rod adapted to be moved by the knee of the operator to engage said detent between the two front leaf turning arms and move it so as to release the front leaf turning arm and means for returning said rod to normal position, substantially as described.

2. In a device of the character set forth, a base, a shaft fixed on said base, spring leaf turning arms, one end of each being wound loosely around said shaft and being secured. to said base and the other end extending upwardly, a spring detent engaging the upturned ends of said arms and restraining them in normal position, a reciprocating rod adapted to be moved by the knee of the operator to engage said detent between the two front leaf turning arms and move it so as to release the front leaf turning arm and means for returning said rod to normal position, substantially as described.

3. In a device of the character set forth, a base, spring music turning arms thereon, a spring detent thereon for restraining said arms in normal position, a reciprocating rod mounted thereon, a second reciprocating rod. mounted in position to be engaged by the knee of the operator, apivotally mounted arm pivotally connecting said reciprocating rods, whereby motion is transmitted to the vfirst mentioned rod from the second mentioned rod to move the rst mentioned rod vinto engagement with said detent between the two front leaf turning arms and move it so as to release the front leaf turning arm and means for returning said rods and arm to normal position, substantially as described.
