Hflfll'fl AS/dllin UNITED STATES UNA ALLEN IMES AND IIATTIE A.
SKILLIN, OF AMES, COLORADO. I
VEGETABLE-SLICER.
I Application filed September 12, 1905.
To 11,7] who/1 ir' 'IIMIILI/ con/earn:
' Be it known that we, UNA ALLENIMEs and Harri a A. SKILIJN, citizens of the United This invention relates to vegetable slicers being designed especially for slicing potatoes and has for its objects to produce a comparatively simple, inexpensive. device of this character in which the potato will at a single operation be cut into slices of a uniform size,
' one wl-ierein the pressure head will conform readily to the material under treatment and to the movements of the operating lever, and one in which the slicing members may be conveniently interchangedfor producing slices of varying sizes.
With these and other objects in View, the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanyingdrawings: Figure 1. is a longitudinal section through the center ot the device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view partly in section of the jointconnection between the plunger rod and plunger. Figs. 3, 4 and 5am plan views of the slicing members. .lteferring to the dr. wings, 1 designates a body portion or ring provided between its ends with an internal horizontally projecting marginal flange 2, there being attached to the body 1 preferably at opposed points, a
handle 3 and a vertically uprising bearing member or arm 4 to the upper end of which is pivoted one end of an operating lever 5 equipped at its other or free end with a hand piece 6 and pivoted between its ends to the upper. end of a plunger rod or stem 7, the normally lower end of which is provided with a socket 8 preferably of the form as seen in Fig. 2.
Removably seated in-the body mefmberl and resting at its lower end upon the flange 2 is a tubular receptacle or cup 9 designed to receive material to be sliced and in which there is arranged a movable 'pressure member or head 10 of substantially semi-spherical form presenting a flat normally lower face and provided with a projecting portion or stem 11 Specification of Letters Patent,
PatentedMay l4, 1907.
Renewed December 13, 1.906. Serial No. 347,696.
having at its upper end a'redueed portion or nipple 12 shaped to conform to and .designed to seat snugly in the socket 8, it being noted in this connection that the jointformed by the nipple fitting in the socket permits radial movement of the plunger rod 7 with the lever 5'.
Screwed into the lower portion of the body 1 is a knife carrier or ring 13 designed to bear at its upper edge against the flange 2 and provided at its outer edge with a horizontal marginal flange 14 adapted to be grasped for screwing the ring in place, there being fixed in said ring a Slurality of cutting knives or blades 15 which as seen in F gs. 3 and 4 are arranged in spaced parallel relation and adapted for cutting a potato or the like in suitable slices. It is to be noted in this connection that the blades in Fig. 4 are spaced a greater distance apart than in Fig. 3v for thus cutting slices of greater thickness, while in Fig. 5 the blades are'shown as intersecting each other for cutting the vegetable in strips.
In ractice, the material to be sliced is place( in the receptacle 9 over the blades 15 which constitute albottom for the receptacle. The operator then moves the free end of lever 5 downward thus causing the plunger 10 to force the Vegetable or material from the receptacle between the blades 15, whereby it is cut into stri s or slices. 1 It may be mentioned that t 1e device will be equipped with a plurality of the members or rings 13 in which the blades are differently arranged and that these rin s may be readily interchanged for effecting esired changes in the sizes or shsipe of the slices of material.
rom the foregoing it is apparent that there is produced a comparatively simple, inexpensive device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view, it being understood that minor changes in the details herein set forth may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
In a device of the class described, an annular body portion provided with a handle and an uprising bearing arm, an open ended r'eceptacle having one end thereof seated in said body ortion, a plunger movably arranged in t 1e receptacle and having a stem,
an operating lever pivoted at one end in the In testimony whereof, we aflix our signabearing arm and provided between its ends tures in presence of two witnesses.
