PATIENT OFFICE.
WILLIAlVI E. MORROW, OF STEUBENVILLE, OHIO.
PAPER-BAG HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratented May 7, 1907.
Application filed November 12, 1906. Serial No. 343,018.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. MoRRow, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Steubenville, in the county of Jeerson and `State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to paper bag holders, and its primary object is to provide a simple, inexpensive device for holding paper bags in convenient position for use in store rooms.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, with novel means for automatically forcing the bags outward in position to be grasped by the hand and readily withdrawn from the holder.-
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, and its novel features will be dened in the appended claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a bag holder embodying the invention, Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device.
The reference numeral 1 designates a board serving 'as a vertical support for the bags, and mounted upon feet 2 to support the device in upright position upon a counter. If preferred however, the board 1 may be provided at its upper edge with screw eyes 3 to which cords 4 are attached to suspend the holder in a position convenient for use.
To each side of the board adjacent to its lower edge is secured a shelf 5 preferably of sheet metal having its edges bent upward to provide an inner flange 6 for securing the shelf and an outer flange 7 serving as a guard to retain the lower ends of the bags in position. The shelves 5 are downwardly inclined to support the bags 8 in inclined position, as shown.-
Secured to each side of the board 1 are a plurality of downwardly inclined bails 9 arranged at different elevations to support bags of different height. Upon each of the bails 9 is a slide 10 comprising a block formed with openings through which the arms of the bails extend. These slides are adapted to rest behind the stacks of bags, and serve to push the latter forward so that their lower folded ends 11 will project in readiness to be grasped and withdrawn.
The utility and operation of the improvement will be readily understood. The device is adapted to hold bags of different sizes and the slides 10 serve to automatically force the bags forward into position for use, the downward inclination of the bails permitting the slides to move forward by gravity.
It will be apparent that any desired number of bails may be employed, and that'the invention is not restricted to the exact construction shown, but includes all such modifications as may be resorted to without departing from the terms and scope of the claims.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :i
1. In a holder for paper bags, the combination of a vertically disposed board, bag supporting shelves arranged at an inclination on each side of the board along the lower end thereof, each shelf comprising a plate flanged upwardly at its inner edge and secured to the board and having a flange on its outer edge constituting a bag guard, a plurality of bag holding bails fixedly secured at their inner ends to the board and arranged at different heights on said board, and slides on said bails between which and the closed outer ends of the bails the paper bags are received.
2. In a holder for paper bags, the combination of a supporting board, two inclined supporting shelves arranged one at each side of the board along the lower edge thereof, each shelf adapted to support a series of packages of paper bags of different hei hts, and a plurality of bails fixedly secure at their inner ends to the board and arranged at different heights on said board to hold packages of paper bags of various heights, and a slide on each bail between which and the outer ends of the bails the bags are received, substantially as described.
3. A bag holder comprising a vertical support, an inclined shelf secured to said support adjacent its lower edge and extending throughout the width of the support to sup- IOO port a plurality of' packages of paper ba s, In testimony whereof I affix my signature and a plurality of bails lixedly secured at t e in the presence of two witnesses.
inner ends to the Vertical support at different hei hts thereof to accommodate paper bags WILLIAM E' MORROW 5 of iflerent lengths, and a slide on each bail, Witnesses:
between which and thel outer end of the bail WILLIAM S. MGCAUSLEN,
the paper bags are received. LYoURGUs S. MYERS.
