provide an improved account book by which a great saving of labor in the keeping of accounts is effected. Second, to provide an improved account book having removable sheets which may be readily attached or detached.

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a detail plan of my improved account book, the same being shown open. Fig. 2 is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. 1, one ofthesheets E being shown in a partially detached position by dotted lines. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail View taken on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. 1, showing details of thebinding rings a. Fig. 4 is an inverted detail of one of the fixed sheets D. Referring to the drawing, the covers A A are of any desired material and construction.

The leaf engaging rings a are made up of sections which may be separated to permit the insertion or removal of the leaves. The sections of the rings a are mounted on the plates 6. The plates 1) are arranged in a holder formed of sheet metal strips 3 B.

The edges of the bottom strip B are turned up to secure the outer edges of the plates 1) and the edges of the top plate B are turned down to embrace the edges of the bottom plate. The inner edges of the plates are connected by the clips 5.

The leaves are made up of the body portion C, having the fixed. sheets D, secured at their outer edge, and the detachable sheets E. The fixed sheets D are preferably formed of celluloid or some equivalent transparent erasable material. They may, however, for some purposes be merely good firm paper. The body portion 0 of the leaves and also the detachable sheets E are perforated to engage the bindings a. In my preferred construction I attach the fixed sheets D to the leaf body C by stitching along the outer edge and ends thereof, as at c, a single row of stitches securing the fixed sheets to both sides of the body.

The inner edge of the fixed sheets D forms a retainer or pocket for the outer edge of the detachable sheets E. The fixed sheets D are ruled into spaces and also are ruled into columns.

I have shown my improved account book adapted as a water assessment record for cities, the fixed sheet having a name column, a yearly assessment column, and a rate col umn thereon.

The detachable sheets E are spaced to cor respond with the spacing of the permanent or fixed sheets, and are suitably ruled into item columns, as desired.

I preferably form the fixed sheets of some transparent material such'as celluloid, and print the heading and ruling on the reverse side thereof, as is indicated in Fig. 4. By so doing, if it is necessary to make any change in the fixed sheet, the same can readily be done by erasing or Washing without any danger of erasing or blurring the printed matter Where only slight changes occur good firm paper will serve the purpose for a long time.

The detachable sheets can be readily removed when it is desired to renew the same,

' their outer edge being held by the fixed sheets, as stated. By slipping the edges of the detachable sheets under the edges of the fixed sheets, the parts are brought into such relation that the leaf possesses all the advantages of a continuous piece. The detachable sheets are securely held and at the same time may be quickly removed and replaced as stated.

In the modified construction shown in Fig. 5, the fixed sheets are attached by means of the eyelets instead of the stitching c. I, however, prefer the stitching, as it does not add to the bulk or thickness of the leaf.

I have illustrated and described my improved account book in detail in the form preferred by me onaccount of its structural simplicity and convenience. While the binder is particularly adapted for use in this relation, as it retains the leaves so that they are readily accessible and lie flat when the book is open, other binders might be used with satisfactory results.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In an account book, the combination with the covers of binding rings carried thereby; and leaves consisting of body portions perforated to receive said binding rings; fixed sheets formed of transparent erasable material secured to said body portions along their outer edges and ends, said fixed sheets being ruled into spaces and columns, having suitably designated name, yearly assessment, and rate columns, the ruling and indexin being on the reverse sides of the sheets; an detachable sheets adapted to have their outer edges inserted under said fixed sheets, and

perforated at their inner edges to receive said binding rings, said detachable sheets being ruled into spaces to correspond with the spacing of said fixed sheets, and having suitably designated item columns, for the purpose specified.

2. In an account book, the combination with the covers, of binding rings carried thereby; and leaves consisting of body portions perforated to receive said binding rings; fixed sheets secured to said body portions along their outer edges and ends, said fixed sheets being ruled into spaces and columns, having suitably designated name, yearly assessment, and rate columns, and detachable sheets adapted to have their outer edges inserted under the fixed sheets, and

perforated at their inner edges to receive said binding rings, said detachable sheets being ruled into spaces to correspond with the spacing of said fixed sheets, and having suitably designated item columns, for the .purpose specified.

3. In an account book, the combination with the covers, of binding rings carried thereby; and leaves consisting of body portions perforated to receive said binding rings, fixed sheets formed of transparent erasable material secured to said body portions along their outer edges and ends, said fixed sheets beingruled into spaces and columns, having suitably designated name, yearly assessment, and rate columns, the ruling and indexing being on the reverse sides of the sheets, and detachable sheets adapted to have their outer ed es inserted under the said fixed sheets, an perforated at their inner edges to receive said binding rings, said detachable sheets being ruled into spaces to correspond with the-spacing of said fixed sheets, for the purpose specified.

4. 5. 7. 8. In an account book, the combination with the covers of a temporary binding mechanism, and leaves consisting of body portions adapted to be secured by said binding means; fixed sheets formed of transparent erasable material secured to said body portions along their outer edges and ends, said fixed sheets being ruled into spaces, the ruling being on the reverse side thereof, and detachable sheets adapted to have their outer edges inserted under said fixed sheets, and their inner edges held by said binding means, said detachable sheets being ruled into spaces to correspond with the spacing of said fixed sheets, for the purpose specified.

9. In an account book, the combination. with the covers, of a temporary binding mechanism, and leaves consisting of body portions adapted to be secured by said binding means, fixed sheets secured to said body portions along their outer edges and ends, said fixed sheets being ruled into spaces, and detachable sheets adapted to have their outer edges inserted under said fixed sheets, and their inner edges held by said binding means, said detachable sheets being ruled into spaces to correspond with the spacing of said fixed sheets, for the purpose specified.

In an account book, the combination with the covers, of a temporary binding ing means, fixed sheets formed of transparent material secured to said body portions said fixed sheets being ruled into spaces, the ruling being on the reverse side thereof, and detachable sheets adapted to have their outer edges inserted under said fixed sheets, and their inner edges held by said binding means, said detachable sheets being ruled into spaces to correspond with the spacing of the fixed sheets, for the purpose specified.

13. In an account book, the combination with the covers, of a temporary binding mechanism, and leaves consisting of body portions adapted to be secured by said binding means, fixed sheets formed of transparent material secured to said body portions and detachable sheets adapted to have their outer edges held by said binding means, for the purpose specified.

14. 15. 17.
