Specification of Letters Patent.
Eatented 7,
Application filed October 1,1906. Serial No. 336,935.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH Wrnsnno- MEIER, a sulnect of the German Emperor, re-
siding at Rinteln-on-the-Weser, Germany,.
have invented a Machine for the Automatic Insertion of Glass Balls into Bottle-Necks, of
\ necks of sooalled ball stoppered bottles for containing beverages under pressure such as mmeral waters and the like. Hitherto the glass ball had to be placed by hand in the unfinished bottle and owing to the Large num-. ber of manipulations required a great loss of time was involved which resulted in a conslderably decreased output. By the insertion of the glass balls by automatic means a' greatly increased'efliciency is obtained. The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing in which i Figure 1 is a section of the apparatus and Fig. a plan view thereof.
The glass balls a in a heated condition are laced in a receptacle 1) provided with a slightly to roll to one end. To this end a pipe 0 is fitted into which the balls pass one above or afterthe other. The said pipe is closed by a slide d on which rest the balls passing from the receptacle or hopper b. A second slide e is arranged a distance below the slide d corresponding to the diameter of the ball and an being withdrawn permits a ball to pass :hrough a conduit f into the bottle neck.
The operation of the two slides is effected )y means of the to-and-fro movement of a .liding rod 9 mounted to run-on Wheels or 'ollers g This movement of the bar is ransferred to the slides (Z and e by :1 connect-- ng rod t pivoted at h. Owing to the fact hat the two slides are respectively located bore and below said pivotal point h both erforn1 movements opposite to each other, hat is to say when one slide is withdrawn the econd obstructs the passage free through he conduit f and vice versa. A third slide 7c 3 also connected to the connecting rod i and .ipportod above the outlet opening of the zceptacle b. The said slide it has a finger 7r xtending dowinvardly into the receptacle Z) rid owin'g'to the shaking or shogging action nparted thereto prevents the balls from ogging so that they pass easily into the ipe c.
The movement of the slide rod 9 is proinclined bottom so that the balls tend ceptacle. The return movement catable support whereby t leased one by one from said receptacle into the duced by simply placing the bottle thereon and pressing same against an abutment Z whereupon the released ball rolls through the conduit f into the bottle neck. iihen the ball has arrived at this point the upper end of the bottle that is the bottle head can be completed. The construction'of the ball releasmg device is of course not confined to the form of construction shown but may be effected by any suitable means provided al Ways that only one ball is released at a time, the other balls remaining in the delivery reing bar 9 into its position of rest takes place of the slideither by a spring acting on the connecting rod m or by a counter weight or equivalent. The Whole a paratus may be made of suitable materia and owing to its simple, rapid and efficient action secures an essential increase in the output of bottles. What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters States is 1. Apparatus for the purpose set forth corn rising a reci'procatable su port for the bott e, a receptacle forthe ba ls, means of communication between said receptacle and the neck of the bottle and means whereby the balls are released one by one from said re ceptacle into said means of communication.
2. Apparatus for the urpose set forth com rising a reciprocatab e support for the bottl e, a receptacle for the balls, conduit in communication with said receptacie and extendingtherefrom to the neck of the bottle on said sup ort and means 0 aerated by said reciprocatab le support whereoy the balls are released one by one from said receptacle into said conduit.
3. Apparatus for the urpose set forth comprising a reiprocatab e support for the bottle, rollers'supporting said support, a re ceptacle for the balls. a conduit in communication with said receptacle and extending therefrom to the neck of the bottle on said support, means operated by said recipro 1e balls are re* said conduit and means for agitating balls in'the receptacle aforesaid.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
