Poor-BALL CARRIER; i
Application filed'March27,1922. Serial7No.'5/5.7,0a0.
To all whom "it mayfco'ncer'lt: y
:Be it known that I, `Horns M. SHERROD, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Dyersburg, in the county of Dyer andState of Tennessee, have invented certain new and y useful -`Improvements. in Pool-Ball Carriers,
of which thev following is .a specification, reference being Ahad vto the `accompanying drawings.
This invention relates toV improvements in pool ball carriers, and moreparticularly Ato.
a device for use in transporting pool balls from the rack in which they are vstored during a game to thepool table. K
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of-this character which will receive the balls directlyfrom the'rack and which may beemployed in-conjunction vwith the racks ynow *in ruseV with very slight changes or -modiiications of kthe structures thereof.`
A further obj ectv of the invention is topi-o vide a device of this character which-may be manipulated with one hand so lthat the other` hand 'of the user maybe employed for-moving the balls `from the rack into-the receptacle.
A still further object ofthe invention isf to provide a ldevicewof this character whereby the balls are maintained in'a substantially horizontal pathy during their passage from the rack into the container in order that-they may not be broken by falling thereof.
These and otherobjects I attain by the construction and arrangement shown in the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout:
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectional view showing an apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention in position to receive the balls from a pool rack;
. Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device;A
and
Figure 3 is an end elevation thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates cylinders, two in number, and arranged in substantially parallel relation, the cylinders being spaced and braced by interposed securing and bracing elements 11. One end of each of the cylinders 10 is closed, as indi- .end offthe cylinders may be'p'ositioned as cated at 12, and the opposite end thereof is i vprovided at that portion remote from thev other cylinder 1G Vwith hood '13.` The numeral 14 a projecting flange or designates' a handle mem;
ber'having its legs secured tothe cylinders 10 at a point adjacent the openI end of the cylinders, and the'numeral 15 designates an 'arm loop having its lends secured toy thevcylend. rIn the use of the devicethe loopf15 is adapted for the insertion -of the arm, the hand. grasping the handle 141 so that the open desired. Y v
'Asis well known tothose'familiar with the art, pool :ball racks-are broadly divided into "two classes, eachof which isprovided with shelves 16 and an-end wall 17maintaining the shelves'in proper spaced relation. in one of'itheseclasses the end walls are provided with openings 18 through which the balls vcarried `lby Ithe shelf may be removed. In accordance with my invention racks which-are vnot provided` with; such openings would have theopenings formed, therein sov that the end-'flanges 13 of the cylindersmay be. engaged in the openings and the balls movedfrom :the rack` by the hand intovthe cylinders 10; As ,hereinbefore stated, the
armis inserted through'thev loop L15 Aand the hand engaged with the handle 14t`and while the ldevice' is'thus held, the ends ,off the cylinders are moved into position at the openings so that the cylinders 10 valign with an adjacent pair of such openings. The'balls from the shelves 16 are then moved with the other hand into the cylinders by means of which they maybe transported to the table. This structure is particularly well adapted for use in this connection by reason ofthe fact that in placing the balls in the racks Athey are usually placed .upon adjacent shelves and accordingly single positioning of the device will ordinarily suiiice vfor removing all the w balls from the rack R. The cylinders on the side thereof remote from the handle 14 andl arm loop 15 may be connected by a bracing strap 19 disposed adjacent the open endof the cylindersV and which will serve as means for hanging up the implement when not in use. .n
From` the foregoing it is believed to be obvious that a device' constructed in accordance `with my invention is particularly well adapted for the use for which it is intended by reason of the fact that it prevents droppage and breakage of the pool balls and that it renders the operation of removing the balls from the rack to the table a very simple matter. It Will likewise be obvious that lthe construction as hereinbefore set forth is ferring pool balls from Wall racks having supporting shelves and an end Wall with' which the shelves are engaged and Which is provided with openings aligned With said shelves and through Which balls carried by the shelves may be removed, comprising a plurality of substantially parallel cylinders each having one end closed and the opposite end open, said cylinders combining to form a portable unit and being adapted for engagement against the end Wall of the rack with the open ends thereof in alignment with adjacent openings of the end Wall-of the rack and in substantial alignment with the shelves upon which the balls are arranged to thereby permit removal of the balls carried by the shelves through the openings of the end Wall into said cylinders for transportation in said cylinders.
2. A pool ball carrier for use in translf ferring pool balls from Wall racks having supporting shelves and an end Wall With which the shelves are engagedv and which is provided with openings aligned with said shelves and through which balls carried by the shelves may be removed, comprising a plurality of .substantially parallel cylinders each having one end closed and the opposite end open, said cylinders combining to form a portable unit and being adapted for engagement against the end Wall of the rack with the open ends thereof'in alignment vvith adjacent openings of the end Wall of the rack and in substantial alignment With the shelves upon which the balls are arranged to thereby permit removal of the balls carried by the shelves through the openings of the end wall into said cylinders for transportation in said cylinders, said unit being provided adjacent the open ends of the'cylinders thereof With a hand grip, and means carried by the unit for engaging the forearm of the user to support the closed ends of the cylinders.
3. A pool ball carrier for use in transferringpool balls from Wall racks having supporting shelves and an end Wall With whichy the shelves are engaged and Which is provided with openings aligned with said shelves and through which balls carried by the shelves may be removed, comprising a plurality of substantially parallel cylinders each having one end closed and the opposite end open, said cylinders combining to form a portable unit and being adapted for engagement against the end Wall of the rack with the open ends thereof in alignment With adjacent openings of the end Wall of the rack and in substantial alignment With the shelves upon which the balls arev arranged to thereby permit removal of the balls carried by the shelves through the openings of the end Wall into said cylinders for transportation in said cylinders, a hand grip secured to the unit adjacent the open ends of the cylindersv thereof, and a member secured to the unit adjacent the closed ends thereof including portions adapted to engage the upper and inner surface of the forearm of the user to thereby support such closed ends.
In testimony vvher'eof I hereunto aiiiX my signature.
