C HART FOR GARMENT-PATTERNS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed Tseptember 11,1906. Serial No. 334 090i [0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. AnxEL'r, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and
State of New York, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Charts for Garment-Patterns, of which the following 1s a specification.
The ob ect of my present invention is to j. b the otted lines 1) 'v shown in the afford a chart by which the parts of the pati tern, as well as the parts of the garment cut 1 thereto, may not only be readily identified i but which shall also indicate clearly and unmistakably the order and method of securing the several parts of the garment together.
The invention consists essentially in a construction guide chart in which each section of the garment is shown in its proper relation to the others, that is to say, in the order in which the several parts are to be secured successively the one to the other, the sequence being further designated by denomination marks, and corresponding numbers or marks being used to designate where certain parts are to be attached to other parts, especially collars, girdles, trimmings and the like, stantially as hereinafter described claimed specifically.
The accompanying-drawing invention as embodying a constructionguide chart indicating the proper method of assembling the several sections of a ladys jacket as cut to the pattern pieces accompanying the chart.
It will'be-s'een that the several sections are designated not only by name, as vest, front, side front &o'.,. but also by denomination marks preferably (though not necessarily) by capital letters of the alphabet as shown in the drawing, although numerals or other marks indicating the proper sequence of the parts may be substituted with like result.
- Parts or points of the sections that are to be brought into coincidence are designated by like numerals or marks. For instance 1 1 in the chart indicate the points at which and the ends of the girdle pieces (B) are to coincide, while dicate the oints at which the girdle back (D are to register.
Where a part is to be attached to the under side of another, as the vest (A) to the inner side of the front (B) this fact is indicated h lines on the latter (outer) arts, as
drawing.
It will thus be seen that by the useof my construction chart as a guide in assembling the several parts of the garment all danger of error is practically eliminated, the relation and and cpnnection of the parts being disclosed in such a simple and exact manner, that even .sub-
illustrates my those lacking skill or expcrience'can make no mistake as to the method prescribed.
In my concurrent application No. 333,799 filed September 8, 1906 I show the essential features of this invention as incorporated in and forming part of a chart designed to aid in both the cutting and assembling of the parts of a garment.
lVhat I restrict myself to herein: and dcsire to secure by Letters Patent is,
A chart for commercial paper patterns for, guidance in assembling the component parts of a garment, consisting of a representation, on areduced scale, of the several parts of the paper pattern arranged relatively in the order in which the sections of the garment cut to the paper pattern are to be successively sewed together, each part beingedcsignated by the name of the corresponding part of the garment for which the paper pattern is designed be-aring also a mark indicating the order of sequence of the garment section which it represents in the assembling of the component parts of such garment, overlying sections of 'such parts being provided with lines indicating the point of attachmentof underlying parts.
