GUNVALD AUS, OF NE W YORK, N. Y.
MEANS OF CONNECTING CHANNEL-IRONS iN THE CONSTRUCTION OF COLUMNS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed January 25,1907. Serial No. 354.068.
To all whom it III/(LU (XIII/6677b:
Be it known that I, GUNVALD Ans, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means of Connecting Channel-Irons in the Construction of Col umns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use same, reference being had. to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates'to new and useful improvements in means for connecting chan nel irons in constructing columns for -lireproof construction of buildings, etc., and consists essentially in the provision of two channel irons having each a right angled flange projecting therefrom at one side of its center and provided each with a line of apertures which are adapted to be brought into registration with one another and to receive rivets, whereby the two channel irons may be securely held together, the flange of one iron overlapping that of the other.
I illustrate my invention in the aeconipathe drawings by letter, AA designate two channel irons and each is provided with a right angled flanged B projecting from one i i l i face thereof and at one side of its longitudinal center. The flange is provided with a single row of apertures which, when the two flanges lap over each other, as shown in the drawings, will be in registration with one another.
' C designates rivets which are passed through the registering apertures of the flanges and clenched, thereby securely holding the two channel irons together.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of the mechanical construction shown, channel irons may be fastened together dispensing with the usual strap work and reducing to minimum the amount of steel at a location where it is of least consequence \Vhat I claim is 1. A column comprising two channel irons, a web or flange projecting from each iron and apertured, the two flanges designed to overlap each other and rivets passing through registering apertures in said webs or flanges, as set forth.
2; A column comprising two channel irons, each provided with a web or flange projecting at right angles therefrom and at one side of its longitudinal center, said flanges or webs being apertured, rivets passing through 1 registering apertures in said webs and designed to hold the latter overlapping and together, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GUNVALD AUS.
