Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM M. Asnnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing near Rara Avis, in the county of Itawamba, State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
his invention relates to farm implements and more particularly to cultivators, and has for its object to provide an implement of this kind adapted for adjustment to suit different conditions, and which will include portions removable to fit the implement for the per formance of different operations.
Another object is to provide a cultivator including a novel arrangement of parts.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it is to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is a section on line i l of Fig. 4, taken longitudinally of the forward adjusting plate. Fig. 5 is a front view showing the removable ground-treating members detached.
Referring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a longitudinal. beam 6 having forwardly extending parallel horizontal plates secured against its opposite faces, and connected at their forward ends by means of a clevis 8 secured therebetween. Journaled between the plates 7 and between the beam and clevis, there is a wheel 9.
Upwardly and rearwardly extending handles 10 are secured to the beam 6 adjacent to its forward end and rearwardly of the plate 7, and are divergent, these handles having grips 11 at their rearward ends, and being supported at their rearward portions, by vertical brace members 12 secured thereto, and convergent downwardly to the rearward ends of the beam 6 to which also they are socured.
A laterally extending yoke 13 is secured with its bight 13 against one face of the beam 6 adjacent to the forward end thereof, with its legs in vertical alinemcnt, and these legs have longitudinal series of perforations 14 which aline in pairs for the reception interchangeably of a pivot pin 15 which is removably engaged in the forward portionof an arm 16 for pivotal i'novement of this arm thereupon in a horizontal plane toward and away from the beam, and the rearward end of this arm is turned downwardly, to form a stock 17 for a ground-treating device 18. An adjusting plate 19 is secured to the arm 16 and has a longitudinal series of perforations 20 therein for interchangeable engagement with a pin 21. extending upwardly from the beam 6, and this plate is thus arranged to hold. the arm 1.6 at different points of its pivotal movement.
A yoke 22 is secured against the opposite face of the beam 6 from the yoke 13 and rearwardly of the latter, and also has the perforations 14, a rearwardly extending arm 16 i20- ing pivotally engaged with a pivot pin 15 adapted for interchangeable engagement in the pairs of perforations 14. This arm 16 is of similar formation to the arm 16 and has a ground-treating device 23 at its lower end. An adjusting plate 24 is provided for the arm 16 and has a longitudinal series of perforations 25 for interchangeable engagement with a pin 26 corresponding to the pin 21 when carried by the beam.
A stock 27 is detacliably secured against one face of the beam 6, extending downwardly therefrom and having a groundtreating device 28 secured at its lower ends. It will be apparent that the arms 16 and 16 may be detached from the lream by removing their respective pivot pins, and that the stoc 27 may also be removed, and it will be seen that different combinations of these detachable portions may he arranged to lit the implement for the performance of different operations, and that the arms 16 and 16 may be moved toward and away from the beam 6 to suit different conditions.
What is claimed is:
1. An implement of the class described comprising a lzeam, forwardly extending plates secured at opposite sides of the beam, a wheel located and mounted for rotation hetwecn the plates forwardly of the beam, a clevis secured between the plates forwardly of the wheel, and ground-treating devices connected with the beam.
2. In an implement of the class described,
the combination with a beam, of laterally extending longitudinally spaced brackets secured to the beam at opposite sides thereof, rearwardly extending arms pivoted in the brackets for horizontal movement, groundtreating devices carried by the arms, plates secured to the arms and extending inwardly therefrom, upwardly extending pins carried by the beam in longitudinal spaced relation, said pins being adapted for interchangeable engagement in the openings of the adjacent plates, forwardly extending plates secured against the opposite sides of the beam, a vertical wheel mounted for rotation between the forwardly extending plates, a clevis secured between the forward ends of the plates, and rearwardly extending handles connected with the beam.
