Be it known that I, VILLIAM J. TWEEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colville, in the county of Stevens, State of I Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates to improvements in brooms, and has for its object to provide a device of that class with a sprinkler disposed adjacent the broom head and connected with the hollow handle which serves as a reservoir therefor.

With the above and other ends in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, specifically claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying' drawings, in which like parts are designated by corresponding reference numerals in the several views.

Of the 'said drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view in section of the broom stub and a portion of the hollow handle, showing the stem and sleeve formed thereon.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, reference numeral l0 designates generally the head of the broom, which includes a metal stub 11 around which the broom straws are secured, the stub having an interiorly threaded socket 12 formed in its outer end adapted to receive the reduced end 18 of the handle proper 14, which is likewise threaded. The opposite end of the handle is likewise provided with a threaded socket 15 for the reception of the reduced end of a knob 16 or extension 17, according as desired, there being an opening formed through socket l5, in which a set-screw 18 works, to prevent accidental displacement of said extension or knob.

The handle proper 14 is further provided adjacent its lower end with a hollow stem 19 formed integral therewith and projecting laterally therefrom, the bore of said stem communicating with the longitudinal bore of the handle proper. This stem 19 is like wise provided with a depending open-ended sleeve 20, arranged at right angles thereto, and communicating with the interior thereof, there being a screw 21 disposed in the outer end of the stem and provided with a cutaway portion adapted to be moved into and out of registration with the sleeve opening to regulate the flow of liquid from the handle and stem through the sleeve.

Removably connected at its upper end with said sleeve is a sprinkling device comprising a 'flexible body 22 formed of rubber or other tubing, and a disclnrge nozzle 23 which is connected to the opposite end thereof, the sprinkling device extending downwardly from the handle propel' and along the broom stub 1]., against which latter it is held by means of a flexible metal strap 24 pivoted at one end to the broom stub and provided at its opposite end with a hook adapted to engage a pin 25, carried by the stub.

In pract'ce, the knob or handle extension is removed, the handle proper filled with the water or other liquid and the screw-valve 21 set to regulate the flow of liquid to the sprinkling device, when the broom is used in the regular manner.

What is claimed, is-

1. A broom comprising a head including a stub having an internally threaded socket formed therein; a hollow handle having a threaded end adapted for engagement in said socket; a laterally projecting hollow stem formed on said handle adjacent said threaded end and communicating with the interior of said handle, said stem having an open ended sleeve formed at right angles thereto; a sprinkling device attached at one end to said sleeve and provided at its opposite end with a discharge nozzle; means carried by said broom stub for holding said sprinkler thereagainstand means for regulating the flow of liquid from said stein through said sprinkler.
