NECKBAND-RING.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, BERTRAM O. DON- NELLY and CHARLES K. MOKNIGHT, citizens of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckband-Rings; and we do declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the acc0mpanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of re erence marked thereon, which form a part of this s ecification.

The 0 ject of our invention is to provide a neck band ring especially adapted for use in shirt factories and laundries whereby artistic and uniform shape and uniform size may be secured.

To attain our object we place a thumb cam on a frame connected with and surrounded by. a ring the cam when turned expanding and regulating the size of the ring thereby acting as a gage to the neck band.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a neck band ring and its frame, closed, its cam idle; Fig. 2 shows the ring in the position assumed after being inserted in a given size band, its ends and frame spread apart by a cam in engagement with a lug; Fig. 3 is a cross section through that part of the frame carrying the lug Fig. 4 is a similar section view through that part of the frame carrying the cam Fig. 5 is a top view of a cam with fiat or irregular places on its edge. Fig. 6 is a top view of the cam shown with notched edge and Fig. 7 is a detail side view of the cam, its boss and the cars by which to manipulate it.

Similar numbers refer to similar parts in the several views.

To carry out the purpose of our invention we construct the neck band ring 1 of spring metal or other suitable material, preferably heartshape, said ring being divided as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Two legs 2, 2 rigidly at tached to the inside of said hand ring serve as a frame for supporting the mechanism and keeping the divided ends of the ring in line.

3 is a lug on leg 2 and 4 is a thumb cam having either stops or flattened or other irregular surfaces at given places on its edge to lock the device when legs 2 and 2 have been sufliciently spread to make the required measurement around the outside ofthe ring. 5, 5 are thumb ears on the cam by which it may be turned by the operator'an'd 6 is a boss on said cam.

7 is a hinge joint at the bottom of legs 2 and 2.

8 is a bolt or male screw adapted to engage with a cylinder shape female screw 9 which is rigidly fastened at one end in leg 2 and upon which the cam is revoluble to spread neck band ring 1, as shown in Fig. 2, to adjust it to varying sizes of neck bands.

10 is a pivot for hin e 7 and 11 is a hole extending through the boss and cam through which the cylinder shape female screw ex tends.

12, 12 are flat or irregular places on the edge of the cam to serve as stops when the legs have been sufficiently spread and to hold the divided ends of the ring apart the required distance.

14 is a lug on the cam to act as a stopto prevent the cam turning too far.

15, 15 are notches or indents on the edge of the cam instead of fiat places 12, 12 shown in Fig. 5, and 16 is a recess for a shirt band button.

In using the device the ring is inserted into the neckband after the band has been buttoned, the thumb cam is then turned until the flat place, irregular surface or notch, is felt to strike the lug; the garment is then the desired shape and the exact size of the neck band and neck band ring.

More than one size may be made with each ring by increasing the pitch and the number of notches on the edge of each cam.

What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination in a neck band ring, of a spring metal band provided with a recess for engaging a neck band button; a frame attached to the band at its point of division, the extension of said frame forming le s pivotally connected at their lower ends, a 'emale screw on one of said legs, a cam, having a cam lug, notches and thumb ears, and a male at one end and constituting the frame, a band having its ends rigidly fastened to the upper ends of said legs, and provided with a recess for a shirt band button, a cylinder shape female screw on one of said legs, a lug opposite thereto on the other leg, a cam revoluble on said screw and provided with notches in its edge to serve as stops and a lug to limit its movement, and a male screw engaging the female screw to fasten the cam to the frame, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a neck band ring a divided spring metal band, provided with a recess for a shirt band button, a divided frame attached to said band the parts of the frame being hinged at one end, a cam on one part of the frame adapted to be revolved thereon and having a lug and stops thereon, and a lug on the frame with which said cam lug and stops are adapted to engage, substantially as set forth and shown.
