Description
tatee @anni @B JOSEPH BRAUN, OE ROCHESTER., PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 85,058, lated DecemberI 22, 1868; anteflatezl December 11, 1868.
IMPROVE!) APPARATUS FOR DRYING- PRESSINGi- CDATS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent: and making part of th same.
To all whom 'it may concern: o Be it'known that I, JOSEPH BRAUN, of Rochester,
in the county of Beaver, and State of Pennsylvania,
h. ve invented a ne\v and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Drying andPressing Goats,Vests, Sec.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference markedthereon. v
The nature of my'invention consists in the combination of the parts hereinafter described, for thc purpose of adjusting the several parts of the metallic core forcoats to the diierent forms and size of coats and vests, for the purpose herein set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use' my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings. which form part'of my speciiicat ion- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved metallic core, and representsa coat arranged and 'secured upon it.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the front section of the core.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the part used for drying and pressing the collar of the coat or vest.
In the drawings- A and B represent the two main parts of the core.
C represents the front part, which is made hollow, (as shown by the part broken out at nti-in iig. 2,) and is provided with springs 7, pipes o3 and 5, and a guidepin, 6.
The part gis madeihollow, (as shown at m, in fig. 3,) and is provided with a pipe, o, foroarrying ofi" the water formed by the condensation Of the steam. The opening u is used for the insertion of the pipe n, as shown in i .1.
Tlgie parts marked m, which are used for the sleeves -of the coat, are soarranged, Withrelation to the parts A and B, that. they can be readily removed from and again secured to said parts.
To the lower part of the parts A and B, are secured two pieces marked f and c. The screw 1 is fitted to screw-threads in the piecc f, and the point of the screw 1 is pivoted in the piece e. Y
The lower parts of the parts A and B are provided with straps h and buckles, which are used, in connection with the band R, for stretching the coat down on the core.
The pieces? are provided with hooksx, and are used, in connection. with the lacing-cord w, for drawing the coat around the core.
The upper ends of the parts A and/,B are provided with pipes 2 and 3, which are connected'by acoupling, 4. I
As the construction and arrangement of the several parts hereilrdescn'bed will readily be, seen and understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, I will therefore proceed to describe their operation, which is as follows The parts mare removed from the parts A and B,
and placed in the sleeves of the coat. The coat is thenv placed over the parts A and B, and the parts 'm again' securedtotheir place. The coat'is then Washed or scoured, after which, the part C is placed on the parts A and B, as shown infigl. The pipe 5 and pin 6 will hold it in position. y
The pieces P are then hooked to the coat, and lare laced together by the cord'w. Thebandlt is then hooked to the tail ofthe coat, which is drawn down by the straps l1. The coat isthen stretched by turning the coupling 4 and the screw 1.' Theisprings 7 will press the p'art O outwards. The part gis then placed under the coat collar, as shown in iig. 1.*
Steam is then admitted to the parts A and B, through pipe y. From them it passes through pipes n and 5 to part O and g, and the heat of thestearn cn the core will dry the coat, which, when dry, will bevpressed.
Pipes o and of are used for carrying oti the water formed' by the condensation of the steam.
I do not claim broadly a metallic core with -steam. inside, for such device is found in the English patent, No. 10,156, Of 1844; but' A The combination of the parts A, B, O, and g, adi j usting-screws 1,'.coupling 4, pipes 2, 3, n, o', and y,'constructed, arranged, and operating as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
` JOSEPH BRAUN. Witnesses: y
. vJAMES J. JOHNSTON,
A. .0. JOHNSTON.
