Be it vknown that I, S. R. WILMOT, of Bridgeport,

in the county of Ilairlield, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Manufactureof Lamp-Chimneys;- and I do hereby. declare the following, -Wh enjtaken in 4connection with the accompany-ing drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon,

to be a full,.clear, and exact description ofthe same,

Figure 1, a side view, and in Figure 2, a section on line a: x. v This invention relates to an.- improvement in the manufacture of lamp-chimueys,`th'e result 4being the production of chimneys, the bases of which are all precisely a' given size.

To produce chimneys-of this description, I employ .a machine of my invention, application for patent for The chimney A is first formed in the usual manner. then placed upon the machine before referred to, lthe base seti ing over the severalfingers, which, when the chimney is so set, 'are caused to expand, each finger striking respectively upon the chimneyV at 0;, forming a ridge or indentation at that point, the space between falling into' the shape of a ilute or corrugation. rIhe lingers all expanding to a given size, the chimneys are producedl of a like even size.

It may be proper here to remark -that the result is .accomplished alike by the expansion of the fingers within the chimney, or by contraction without.

The importance 'of constructing chimneys with their ,bases all of a given size, will ,be readily recognized, and

especially so in that class'. of chimneys which are designed for what are termed and known to the trade as sun-burners. v
