Description

PATENTED APRQm, 1907.
w. D. BAGLEY.
FOOT REST. APPLIOATION FILED AUG. 7, 1996.
Qkkouuqa legs,-an adjustable foot-piece 'w ruiran n nastier, or Enron,- ontanona 'rlnnnrronr.
' erase ass, I
.Z'o all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WALTER DJ BAeLEY,
a citizen of the United-States, residing at Erick, in the county of Greer and Territory of Uklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Rests; of
which the following is aspecification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple form of, "adjustable foot-rest designed particularlj for use in shoe-shining parlors to support the feet of customers duringrtheoperation of polishing shoes.
, he peculiar construction of the foot-rest admits of special and various adjustments thereof, so as to admit of convenient use of the rest by persons having lon er and shorter heing provided also to admit of very comfortably holding the foot in the desired position.
For a full underst'andin of the. invention and the merits thereof an 'also' to acquire aknowledge of the details of construction :of
the means for efiecting the result reference: is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawin s, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a foot-rest embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a ver-' tical sectional view. Fig. 3 is'a detail view of the ad-jus'table'ioot-piece of the rest.
Corresponding. and like-parts are referred to in the followin description and indicated in'all'the views o thedrawings by the same reference characters Referring to thedrawings, and specifically f describin the construction of the' nvention,
, which is rllustrated thereby, the numeral 1 indicates a standard whichi's composed of ad- 'justable sections 15 and 1 the sections 1* and 1" being relatively movable and. adapted to beheld at a predetermined adjustment with ;regard to one anotherin order" to lengthen or shorten the standard 1, asi m'ay be necessary to accommodate the foot of; a'
" 'overfthe teeth. To lower the section' person'whose shoes are'being polished. The
sectioni of the standard may be tubulanf 'so asjto receive the section 1 in a'telescopic manner, and a longitudinal edge 'portion'of the "section 1 1s toothed, as shown at 2', so as to cooperatewitha suitable catch '3, pivoted to the section 1 and having an end thereofadapted to enga e-the toothed portion 2. of-
he teeth of the portion 2 1 of the section 1 of the standard are so inthe section 1.
- clined that the section 1 may; be moved, freely upward, the nose of the catch 3 riding FGOT Specification of Letters Patent. lipplication filed Argus 7,1905, sensin seen] I Patented April 16, 1907.
- relative' to the section it, it is only necessary to'depress the catch 3 and disengage the same from the teeth,.2. At. the lower end thereof the'section 1 of the standard 1 is formed with a notched segment 4, received between spaced circular plates 5, one of which may be formed integral with or other wise attached to. a base-plate 6, which will be secured by suitable fastenings to. the
tions of the plates and which s ace said plates apart, so as to admit ofreadi y'placing the segment 4 of the section "1' therebetw'een.
A catch 8, applied tonne of the plates -5, is
adapted-to; engage in a'selected one of the notches of the'segment 4 to hold the standard 7 5' l at a desired angular adjustment in an ob- ;vious way. A'foot-piece 9 is s'upportedat the upper'end of the standard '1, sardfoot-piece having a segment \10 similar to the segment 4 and being fitted; between lates 11 at the 20' upper end of the section 1* o the standard 1,. v
the lates- 11' having flanges 12 similar to thehnges 7 of the plates 5, and one of the plates 11 is ri idw with the section 1 of said standard. A; catch 13, applied to one of 5 the plates 11, is adapted to engage in one of the notches of the segment 10 to hold the foot-piece 9 in the. desired angular adjustment.
Theiplates 5, p be secured togetheroy central astenings 14,
.which form the ivots'connecting the plates 5-with the stan ard-section 1 and the iootrest Q'With the standard-section 1 ..-as to admit of various adjustments or the not specifically set forth 'for this reason. Having th described the inventlon,
I A'foOt-rest comprisinga base-plate, me ns v for'soui'ing' said plate to ,a suita s standard consistingrof. the section'l pro- 'vided with teeth longitudinally thereof and 1,015
