t may concern: l Be it known `that I, HARVEY CoNovER, `a citizen of the United States, residing at Da ton, in the of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cartons and l do 'declare the following act description of the invention, such as will art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being. had to the accompanying drawings', and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cartons or paper boxes of the type which are especially adapted for dispensing crackers and the like iii retail quantities.
The eb ject of the invention is to provide a practically air-tight carton, which, owing to its air-tight features, dispenses with the necessity of inclosing the carton in aseparate wrapper. j
Preceding a detail description of the invention reference is made to the accompanying drawings, of which` Figure l is a plan view of theblank from which the carton is built. iff. 2 is a perspective view of the carton folded from the blank, as shown in Fig. 1. ig. 3 is a sectional view on the line y y of Fig. 2 with the cover thrown up anda part thereof broken away. 111g. 4 is a section on the line of Fig. 5 isa section on 'the line t t of ig. 2. n a detail description of the invention characters indicate corresponding parts.
The carton is constructed of a suitable quality of cardboard, cut and scored as shown in Fig. 1, where l indicates the bottom of the box, united with sides 2 2 and ends 3 '3, which are bent upwardly at right angles along the intervening score-lines. The sideand end walls 2 and 3 are enabled to be thus bent b intervening triangular folds of the bellows type which fold inwardly along the diagonal score-lines and lie against the inner sidesof the end Walls 3 3. Extending from the said end walls are flaps 6 6, which fold or bend upon the parallel' score-lines and extend down and inclose the bellows folds 4 and 5 against the walls 3 3. The end iiaps 6 6 are suitably cut at their ends to provide tongues county of Montgomery and State l l I 'with being projected between nal score-lines.

From the other side wall 2 the cover 9 extends and is enabled to cover the mouth of the carton fornied by the upright sides 2 and 3 by bending said cover on the intervening score-line separating it from its adjacentside wall 2. e cover 9 has end and side liaps 10 and 11, which bend at right angles to the cover along the intervening score-line and enter the mouth of the vessel or box. The iiap 11 engages the iiap 8 on the inner side of the latter fiap, while the end flaps 10 of the cover lie against the inner sides of the tongues orloc 'ng-flaps 66. In beads 12. and 13 in proper positions to engage each other above and below, the positions of said beads, it will be observed, vary on their respective flaps 8 and 11.
The interlocking bead 13 in the fiap 11 being farther away from the adjacent parallely one of said beads lying 93 order to bring these interlocking l.score-line will liebelow the bead 12. This' interlocking idea is carried out with reference and 10, which have, re-y spectively, beads 14.- and 15, which interlock one below the other, as shown in Fig. 4, when the end flaps 10 10 of the cover are projected into the. mouth of the box. y means of these inwardly-projecting beads or ribs' a is effected between the cover and the ends and oneside of the box, the other side of the box b to the end flaps 6 and the adjacent side wall 2.
