To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUSTIN Hmnmroxs,

a citizen of the United States, residing at combined packing-boxes an stands, and

. more particularly to suchdevices adapted for use in connection with adding-machines, type-writers, and like devices; andits object is to provide packing-boxes for such machines with appliances whereby a box may be also used'as a stand u on which the machine may be supported or use and to provide the device wlth various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of my device arranged as a stand to support an adding-machine, type-writer, or analogous mechanism; Fig. 2, the device arranged as a packing-box with the contents omitted; Fig. 3, an enlarged detail in vertical section, showing a support and means for adjusting and securing the same tothe box; Fig. 4, the same showing method of attaching the sockets to the box; Fig. 5, a plan view of the same, and Fig.6 a plan view of one of the supports.

To adjustably secure the late in place, I provide slotted openings 18 1n theplate, through which extend screws 11 into the block 6, and to release the plate from the box I provide a slot 12 in the late and an olppnin 16 in the-block 6 and be ow. the slot, t oug which slot and opening a screwdriver or other suitable tool may be inserted to operate as a lever to withdraw the plate from the box. For further security I also provide a screw 14, inserted horizontally in the block 6 and recessed within the same, as at 13, to protect the head of the screw. The point of this screw projects from the block 6 and enters the corner of the box, and thus provides additional security to hold the support in place. Whenever the box is packed or shipment, the supports and the sockets are all detached and placed within the box in a compartment formed by the artition 22 and the machine placed in the arger compartment and the handle 20 changed from the side to the end of the box, which box then has the ordinary appearance and functions of a shipping-case, but which can be in a very brief time unpacked and adjusted, as shown in Fig. 1, whereby it serves the additional purpose of a convenient and practical stand to su port the machine.

In combination with a box adapted to serve as a shipping-case, supports adapted to be laced within the box when out of use, and engaging both the bottom and sides of the box when in use, means for detachably securing the supports to the box and a detachable divided and hinged side to the box, one part of which side is engaged and held by the supports when in use.

2. The combination of a shipping-case, detachable supports for the same, each support com rising a block having an extension beneatli the case, means for securing the inner end of the extension to the case, and a leveling-screw in the block between said securing means and the outer end of the block and engagin the case. 3. Tn combination with a box ada ted t serve as a shipping-case, a detachab e support for the same comprising a block having a recess in its end to engage the corner of the box, a bottom extension to extend beneath the box, a fastening-screw and an adjustingscrew in said extension, and a plate adjustably mounted on the support and adapted to' engage the sides of the box.

4. The combination of a box adapted to serve as a shipping-case, a detachable support for the box comprising a block having an angular recess to engage the corner of the box, a bottom extension to the block and extending beneath the box, a fastening-screw in said extension, a plate slidable on the top of the block, and having slots therein, and also provided with teeth to engage the sides of the box, and screws extending through the slots and into the block.

5. In combination with a box adapted to serve as a shipping-case, a support to the same comprising a block having an angular recess adapted to engage a corner of the box, a bottom extension adapted to support the box, a fastening-screw in the inner end of said extension, leveling means in the block and engaging the bottom of the box, and a screw recessed in the block and adapted to horizontally engage the box.
