An elongated pull element 52h is provided on the front wall 52b to match up with the like pull elements of the drawers 48 and 50. Also, the bottom wall 52a is provided with an upturned flange 52f extending along its edge at the open side of the drawer 52, and the drawer is supported for open- 1ngfandclosing movements on metal guides 529, one. part being secured along the side edge of the horizontal wall 524: and another on the outer side of the side wall 52d, with the companion parts mounted on the opposite surfaces of the right hand side wall H, of the base part A, and the vertical partition Me.
The top part B of the cabinet is comprised in a top wall 54, a back wall 56, and side walls 58, its front side being open and inset from the front side of the base part A, and the lower also open to engage over a pair of transversely disposed bars or cleats 60, secured in properly spaced relation on th top wall In of the base part, which bars or cleats serve to retain the top part in place.
A closure is provided for the open front of the cabinet part B, and is comprised in a lower section 62 and an upper section 64, hinged in edge to edge relation with the lower section, as at 66, and at its upper edge to a horizontally disposed follower 68; th two sections being dependingly supported from the follower, when in closed position. The follower 68 is supported for horizontal sliding movements within the upper portion of the cabinet part B, immediately below the top wall 54 and above the horizontal portions of guide channel elements or tracks 12, which have vertical portions extending downwardly just within the open front and at opposite sides thereof. The tracks 12 are secured on the side walls 58 and the upper ends of the vertical portions thereof curve into the horizontal portions, as best shown in Figures 2 and 10. The lower end of the lower closure section 62 is provided with a pair of rollers 14, one mounted on each of its side edges and engaged in the adjacent of the tracks 12, while a hand grip 16 is provided on the front side of the upper closure section 64 and is in the form of an elongated strip extending lengthwise of the section, the upper and lower sides of the same being inwardly beveled to insure a firm hold for the fingers.
The closure is moved to open position by initially pullin outwardly on the hand grip 16 to cause the lower section 62 to move upwardly and into folded relation with the under side of the top section, the lower end of the lower section pivoting on the rollers 14 and the hinges 66, while the rollers move upwardly of the tracks. At the end of the upward movement of both closure sections, they are folded in a horizontal position ready to be slid inwardly of the upper portion of the cabinet part, which is to be accomplished by pushing inward on the same to that end. In the inward movement of the closure sections, the follower 68 takes position against the back wall 56 and the rollers traverse the horizontal portions of the tracks 12 rearwardly of the cabinet part. When housed within the cabinet part B, the hand grip 16 abuts the front 6 edge of the top wall 54 thereofand in centered relation with respect to its opposite ends, lending symmetry to the arrangement of the hand grips of all of'the other movable parts of the base section A.
The top part B has its interior provided with substantially the same dispensing, measuring, and mixing, equipment as that of the like part of the cabinet disclosed in my aforesaid application, the same consisting of a horizontally disposed rack 18, secured in place on the back wall 56 and one of the side walls 58, to support, for instance, a flour sifter 80, a coifee dispenser 82, a sugar dispenser 84, a flour dispenser 86, and a dispenser 88 for a liquid.
Mounted on the inner side of the opposite side wall 58 is a stand having a vertical hollow standard 90, having its front side provided with a plurality of vertical slots 92, arranged in vertical alignment, for the insertion therein of carving knives and the like, and several trays 94, arranged in vertically spaced relation, to support other articles, such as tableware, or the like.
Extending inwardly from each of the side walls 58, one in line with the other, is a pair of bracket arms 96 to the free ends of which are right angularly disposed bars 98, arranged parallel to each other and extending transversely of the interior of the cabinet part B and above the rack 18. These bars 98 are identically slotted horizontally, as at I00, with their forwardly directed ends inclined in an upward direction. A rest I02, 01. substantially tray-like form, is positioned between the bars 98 to support a cook-book (not shown) and a leaf holder I04 within the rest; the latter preferably being made from a length of heavy gauge wire, bent substantially U-shape, with its arms directed toward the rear side of the rest and the ends thereof out-turned to project through the side walls of the latter and slidably engage in the slots I 00. When not in use the rest I02 is supported horizontally between the bars 98 and, when put to use, is moved to the front ends of the bars where it tilts to an inclined position by reason that the angled ends of the leaf holder I04 riding upwardly of the inclined ends of the slots I00 and pivoting therein for the purpose.
If desired, a drop-leaf I06 will be hinged to each side wall of the base .part A, to provide additional work supports.
Having thus fully described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the words which I have used are words of description rather than of limitation, and that changes may be made within the purview of the appended claim without departing from the true scope and spirit of my invention in its broader aspects.
What I claim is:
A kitchen cabinet comprising a box-like casing having vertically disposed walls and an open front, a guide element arranged on the inner surface of each of the vertically disposed side walls, a plurality of spaced parallel vertically disposed partitions arranged in said casing and coacting with said walls to define compartments, a guide element arranged on each of said partitions, drawers slidably arranged in said compartments, said drawers being each provided with an open side, a vertically disposed side portion, and a horizontally disposed wall intermediate its bottom and top, a guide element on each of said vertically disposed side portions, a guide element arranged on the free edge of each of said hori- "mtally disposed walls and :coacting with -',-the
guide element one-each -0fsaid partitions; .the guide elementsmn the side pontionsicoaqtingqwith the guide nlements on the-verticalmdisposed. side walls of said casing.
