To all whom tt may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL F. MYERS, of the city, county, and State of New York,I have invented a new and improved Waiter-Machine, for the use of hotels ing drawings, forming part of this specification, in

which- Figure "1.,is a transverse vertical section through the. middle of the machine.

Figure 2 is a perspective view ofthe machine when in operation.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This'invention relates to an improved waiter-machine forQ distributing cooked meals, Sto., from thel ln'tchen to the dining-room.

It consists of an endlessbelt, B, working one continuous 4route within chntes D D', one placed above the other. v f

f These chutes are made of such a depth as not allow the dishes to run off whenthe" machine is in operation.

The whole machine, with the exception of the frame C, is suspended from the ceiling, as shown at iigs. l and 2, by suitable pillars, D, and is constructed so that the chutes can be raised or lowered to regulate the running of the machine in case the belt B should not run level.

This endless belt is divided oli' into sections by means of blacklines running across the belt at e, fig. 2. Each section is numbered to correspond with the number of the person assigned to attend that section. When one of the attendants receives an order for a certain article, such as roast beef, he gives the order, Roast beef, No. 4, and the person attending the machine in the kitchen places the article on the endless belt B, in section 4, as ordered. When the article reaches its destination, the person attending section 4pulls rod f, which operates the bell g: in the kitchen, whichv gives notice to the `person turning the machine to stop. No. 4 then takes the article from section 4 and sets it in front of the person at the table for whom it was prepared, when the machine goes through the same operations whenever an order is given.

The operations of the several parts will now be more fully explained.

A A A are rollers revolving on shafts Af A A', and carrying an endless'belt, B, the said rollers having bearings in the frame C and the chutes D D.

The partition E, which separates the kitchen from the dining-room, has a suitable opening, so as to ,allow the ends of the chutes to project through, marked D D.

Behind this partition, within the kitchen-room, and

iri ont of the opening, stands thei'rame O, to which are attached roller A, and the driving-wheel C', for operating the machine. 'This -wheel is to be turned by manual power.

It is at this point where the articles are placed upon the belt, marked H, figs. l and 2. The top belt is for sending out articles to thefdining-room, and the lower belt for retlnningthe soiled dishes to the kitchen after they havey been used.

A boy/stationed at the frame Cv takes the dishes from the machine as fast as they come from 'the dining-A roorn, and puts them into a vat, where they are washed, so as to have them ready for use. f

v The bells g are for the purpose of giving the alarm for the machine to stop or move on, which is done by the attendants pulling the rod f, of winch there is one on each side of the upper chute D.

These rods connect with bells fastened to the partition E, marked R, which bells give the desired alarm.

When the beltB isfull of dishes, andthe attendants neglect to stop the machine, the dishes come iu' contact with plate S, which is so formed as to allow the dishes to slide down into the receiver H', which prevents the machine from getting blocked upI so as to stop its movements.

The receiver H" is for the purpose of keeping knives and forks so as to have them near at hand when wanted.

On the bottom chute, on each side, is a long plate, p

marked K, held in place by means 'of the screws K. This plate has attached thereto two casters, K, work-` ing in slots m/,and held in place, so as to keep them from falling, by means of a rod m, Hg. l, which is fastened to the bottom of the caster working in the slots m', and held there by a nut, m", fig. l, fastened lso as to allow the caster to be moved when desired. These casters have at their bottoms four small wheels, each working on a track fastened to the plate, so as to allow7 them to be moved back and forth with ease.-

The top and lower ends of the pillars D are square, and work in a square'opening, D", so as to allow them to be raised or lowered by' means of .screws a, so that whenthe chutes are lowered they will always be steady.

The register O, placed over the opening in the partition E, is provided with slots for the purpose of holding cards O. When one of these cards is placed in this register, it is to inform the persons attending the machine that whatever articles are marked upon the card in the register are all out, which prevents a great delay in going to the kitchen to iind out by means of inquiring.

l The box A is to cover the belt B from view, so as to give it a neat appearance. Within the boxA" there is another box, A, a 'section of which is broken away at lig. 2. This is intended to keep the belt from view when the chutes are raised or lowered, so as 'to leave no openmg.

The platform Gi', to which is attached the franje c,

has an inner rim, 0', at, fig. l. The platform C is made so as to be raised'or lowered, by means of screws E E E" E", and when in the proper position required, it is held fast by the screws E' E'. This platform is to be raised and lowered When the chutes are raised and lowered, so as to keep the belt on an angle with the roller in the frame C. The rim O,.at grl, is fasteneclto the kitchen-floor, so as to steady the platform C" when-'ibis raised, and also to close the opening which it wouldleave if the rim G, were dispensed with. v

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with the endless belt B, Work' ing in the chute D, of the receiver H,having the plate S, as and-for the purpose described.
