' vided with vent the can during the The object of the invent1onist0 provide a new and improved can and means for venting and closing the same arranged to allow convenient venting of the filled can during the steaming or cooking process and totpermit ready sealing of the can after the cookingand venting process is completed.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fullydes'cribed hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corres' ending parts in all the views.

igure 1 is a perspective prrovement, showing the pry-cover removed om the cap. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the im rovement, showing" the can completel closeii; and Fig. 3 is a like view of a modifie form of the same.

The can-body A is provided with the usual B, formed with a fillingopening B a dished cap' C after the said cap 0 being provided with an outwardly-extending annuar flange C, fastened by solder D to the top B adjacent to the fillingl-o ening B thereo as plainly indicated in t e drawings.

- he cap C- is provided, preferably at its middle, with a vent-opening C to-properly ing process and after pleted the said vent-o ening C is closed by a drop of solder E, as p ainly illustrated in the drawings. The closing-ca C is also prothe usual annu arde ression 0 adapted to be followed by a suita le cuttingtool whenever it is desired to open the can to obtain access to the contents thereof or to this process is comin the parish of Orleans and allow of emptying the can of its contents.

Into the closing-cap C fits a pry-cover F, provided with an outwardly-extend flange F, extending over a portion of the flange C, to allow convenient tool between the flanges C and F to pry the cover F open whenever the consumer desires to obtain access to the contents of the, can 0 with a view to emptying the same.

In order to prevent interference of the solder E for the proper fitting of. the cover F in the cap (3, a s ace is IIIOdSttlOIl of tii understood by reference to Figs. 2 and 3, the

g annular view of the im-' said space being preferably formed by making a de ression F in the pry-cover F, as plainly s ownin-Figs l and oth the pry-cover F and the cap C with deressions F and C, as illustrated in Fig; 3. Thus by the arr'an ement described sufficient space is provided or the solder E, and at the ofthe cap Oalong the annularv to obtain-access to the contents the canning-room is obviate same time the ugly sigpt of the solder covering the VGHtrhOlQ usua is avoided, as the solder Eis covered u the pry-cover F. Another advantage 0 the steaming and cook arrangement is that the can can be run through a cap ing-machine provided witha small fluXing-' over the vent-ope ways in one placet the'cover'C,and consequently the machine can be arranged to reach at that point. With -brush cannot well reach the attached to the capping-maclosed by the solder as previously described, after the-cooking or steaming rochid from view by the pry-cover F.

2, or by forming move. the. pry-cover F he can readilyv cut insertion of a formedfor the accome solderv E, as will be readily.

same time the pry-cover F fits snugly into 4 and at the v y formed in the top B j web to distribute the flux- C as the latter is al- 4 at is, in the centerof the vent-opening in the top B it is apparent canner to form SuchNent-Opening in the top B. Besides, the vent-cgpemng can be readllyv ess is completed, the solder being comp etely Having thus described claim as new, Patent- 7 1. A can comprising a can-body having a my invention, I and desire to secure by Letters filling-opening, a cap for closing the filling for the latter to.snugly fit the cap without interferenceby the said solder.

3. A can comprising a can-body having a I filling-opening,

filling-opening and provided with a vent filling-opening, and a cap for closing the said filling-openmg and provided with a ventopening, a cover fitting the cap the said cover;

having an upwardly-pressed portion directly above the said filling-opening.

4. A can comprising a can-body having a and a cap for closing the said opening, a cover fitting the ca the said cover having a depression in its under side directly above the said filling-opening, and the said cap having a depression in which the said ventopening is formed.

Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing'witnesses.
