BRACELET, CHAIN, AND THE LIKE.

Be it known that I, ARGHIBALD CAMPBELL COOKREN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and residing at Barnsbury, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets, Chains, and the Like, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to bracelets; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be worn in the manner of other bracelets and which may also be employed for other purposes, if desired, or the principle of which may be employed in the manufacture of belts, garters, watch-chains, fob-chains, and like articles.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the main and supplemental elements employed in the manufacture of my improved bracelet; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the method of placing a number of the main elements of my improved bracelet together in the manufacture thereof; Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the main elements of the'bracelet connected by the supplemental elements; and Fig. 4, a view showing a part of the finished bracelet.

In the practice of my invention I provide main and supplemental chain elements a and 1). (Shown in Fig. 1.) The supplemental element 1) consists in the form of construction shown of a double ring or eye, while the main element a is composed of wire bent centrally to form a double ring or eye a the ends of the wire being then projected and crossed and extended to form arms 01?, each of which terminates in a ring or eye a Fig. 2 of the drawing shows the method of arranging the main elements a, in a chain, and Fig. 3 shows the method of connecting the main elements a by the supplemental elements b. In this operation the main elements (1 are placed side by side, the alternate main elements being reversed in their position, and when thus placed the rings or-eyes a of the alternate main elements are connected with the arms a of the other alternate main elements by means of the supplemental elements or rings 1), and the adjacent eyes or rings a of the alternate main elements a are also connected by the supplemental elements or rings 1).

Fig. 3 of the drawing shows three of the main elements of the bracelet connected in the manner described, while Fig. 4 of the drawing shows a section or part of a finished bracelet made in this manner, and, as shown in Fig. 4, the bracelet is provided at its opposite edges with spaces 0, which open when the bracelet is pulled or stretched in the operation of passing it on over the hand.

In making a bracelet in the 'manner described said bracelet is made continuous and may be expanded when desired in the operation of putting it onto the arm over the hand; but my invention is not limited to this method of constructing a bracelet, as it will be understood that the same construction herein shown and described may be employed in making watch-fobs, belts, watchchains, or other articles.

The main elements a of the bracelet are, as will be understood, composed of springwire, and these elements are substantially triangular in form, each of said elements being provided at its corners with rings or eyes, the rings or eyes at one end of the said elements being supported by spring-arms, and with this construction when the main elements of the bracelet or chain are connected by the supplemental elements, as shown in Fig. 4, a pull on the bracelet or chain so made will expand it, the openings at c in the opposite side edges being enlarged, and when said pull is released the bracelet or chainwill automatically contract.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
