LEWIS SIVIITI-I AND SAMUEL FOSTER, JR., vOF DES MOINES, IOWA.
Letters Patent No. 84,443,-clat2d November 24, 1868.
IMPROVED CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
-To all whom Iit may concern panying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction of a device for hoisting and lowering window-curtains, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to ena-ble others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains, to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which forni a part of this speciiication, and inwhich- Figure l is a front view, and
Figure 2, a side elevation.
A represents a window-casing, and
B, the window.
C is a curtain, which is rolled up ou a roller, D, the journals a o of which have their bearings in suitable brackets, E E.
At one end 'of the roller D is a. reel, F, on which the cord e is rolled.
The journal a, on theoutside of the reel F, is round,
fand provided with an indentation,11.
A spring, I, is now secured to the window-casing,
and so bent as to catch in the indentation li, thus holding the roller D still, and preventing the same from turning.
The other end of the cord c is secured to the spring I.
It will be seen that it is only necessary to release the spring I from the cog or notch i, and the'curtain Will at once drop down, winding the cord e up on the reel F, and when it is desired to hoist the curtain, pull on the cord'thus wound up, when the roller D will turn, winding up the curtain. The curtain can, by this arrangement, be placed at any height desired.
Having thus fully described our invention,
That we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the roller D and its reel F, the elongated journal a, provided with an indentation, vi, within which the bend in the curved spring-rod I is rested, all as herein shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing, we have -hereru1to set our hands, this 5th day o/LOIober, 1868.
