Letters Patent No. 84,436, elated November 24, 1868.
ELEVATOR .AND CONVEYER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS Y. MYERS, of Roanoke, in the county of Huntington, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Conveying and Elevatingflacllines;and I do hereby declare that the ibllowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of referencemarked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which is represented a side elevation of my elevator' and conveyor.
The object oi' my invention is to provide a suitable means for elevating and conveying heavy articles; and to this end,
My invention consists in the employment of certain devices, the peculiarities, of which will be hereinaiter set forth.
'lo enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appcrtains, to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing- A represents an inclined rail, supported at each end on a support, B, which is supplied with the groundsill C.
D designates a small frame embracing the inclined rail A, and consisting of two vertical bars, between which issecured, on the under side of rail A, a piece or har, b, which is made to project outward from each side of the bars to which it is secured, as seen in the drawing. v
The bar or piece b is provided at one end with a groove, as shown in dotted lines', into which works a roller, b', playing back and forth ina groove cut in the lower side of the rail A, which extends through the entire length of said rail.
b2 is a latch consisting; of a vertical bar sliding` up and down in the opposite end of piece b, which engages with thc catch b3 in the' upper end of rail A, and supplied at its lower end with a circular piece or plate.
In the upper end of frame D, and rolling back and forth on a tongue or rail in the bar or way A, is a grooved roller, c, the lower end of frame D being also provided with a groovcd roller or pulley, over which passes a cord, el.
One end of the cord e is held at the point c", and from thence made to pass over a pulley, d, in the lower end of bar or rail A, over pulley in the lower end of frame D, as already stated, and then through block and pulley j, to which the weight or load is attached; after which its end is fastened to the upper end of piece l).
Embracing the upper end of rail A, and formed at its lower end with a loop, into whichworks a pulley, g, is a metal bar, Gr.
7l. is a cord secured at one end to the upper part of piece b, and, passing over pulley g, is then furnished with a weight, h.
The operation of my invention is as follows:
The articlel or weight fi, to be raised, being attached to the lower side of block and pulley j", the cord cl will be grasped and pulled, thus raising the weight or load t' until the-block and pulley f have come in contact with the latch b2, which will be pushed up, disengaging it from the catch b3, and thus allow the frame D, with A The cord c being.
the load, to be carried forward. loosened, and the weight or load removed from the .frame D, it will now be drawn back by means of cord h and weight h ready to receive another load, and the same operation repeated until the work to be performed has been accomplished.
I do not claim any of the devices herein described, taken separately; but
What Ifdo claim as new, and desire to secure vby Letters Patent, is n The rail A, conveyer-framc D, latch b2, catch b3, pulley g, cord le, weight 71.', cord c, pulley land block and pulley j', all combined, arranged, and operated substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
' LEWIS Y. MYERS. WVitnesses:
JOHN H. SIMON, PETER EARHAnr.
