TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONGERN: ,i
Be itknown that LAN'THONY POHL, of Detroit, Wayne county, Michigan, have invented a. new and useful Brick and'llIortarEleva-tor; and I do hereby declare that the folloiving is a full, clear, and exact description of the san1e,.refe1'ence being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, (in which Figure 1 is a front elevation, Figure 2 a left-hand side elevation, Figure 3 a right-hand side elevation, and Figure 4 aY vertical sectional veiv,) and to the letters of reference as marked thereon.
The elevatorlc'onsists essentially as follows: First, of two endless chains, A B, (see iigures,) of single and doublelinks alternately,`ivhich may be lcngthened lor` shortened by adding other links, or taking some out, according to the height at 'ivhchtheelevator is required lto act second, thesechains receive motion from' a. drum, C, having faceseo the length ofthe links, so as to engagcivith them, which drum is attached to 'and supported by. a frame, resting on the ground, and movcdby the aid Ofsutable cranks'and wheel-work attachedto the frame, shown at d d, 1&0.; third, the chains are supported above `by a similar pulley-drum, D, which last is attached to or rests on-the scaffolding of the building, or the building itself, at any convenient point for the workmen engaged; fourth, at convenient distances on the aforesaid double chain are holes, which support crossbars, c e e, &c between them, in which holes the bars revolve easily. These cross-bars are shaped betweenv4 said chainsinto open frames, in which the movable box-es or receptacles fff, &c., rest on shoulder-stormed on said boxes. i
The operation ofl the elevator Vis as follows: The boxes or receptacles, having been filled with building material vat "the fra-ine below, the endless chains carrying them are caused to ascend `by power applied tothe cranks or wheel-work, and remain upright and perpendicular by reason of. the weight of the materials held'by Y them. After passing over the upper or pulley-drum D, they may be taken outl by a person or personson the building `or scaffold to which the pulley-drum is attached, and, being replaced in the frames ofithe cross-bars,
descendto be reiilled as required. Provision is made to prevent the reverse motion of thelowcr pulley or drum by attaching to one of its sides a ratchet-wheel and detent. It qwill be seen `that open frames of the cross-bar e support removable boxes or rccept'aclesf, ivhich rest on shoulders, as-bei'ore described.
What I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by `Letters Patent, is-
The` endless chain or belt, carrying pivoted open frames, supporting the removable shouldered bcxesf, for the purpose substantially as described, 4
