BELT.
Speecation of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application tiled September 21, 1906. Serial No 335,634.
T0 all 'L1/71,077?, it Hetty concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON REV/,Menig a citizen of the United States, residing in Jersey City, in the county ot Hudson and State ot New Jersey, have invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Belts, oi' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the manufacture of leather belts for the use of ladies and gentlemen, by which the imterprool quality is imparted to the belts and the injurious in- Yl'luenee ot' perspiration on the belt neutralized, so that a stronger and more durable belt is obtained.
Heretofore leather belts were made by gluing two layers of leather together and stitching them near their edges. These belts were liable to buckle or become unsightly under the influence ot perspiration and to assume gradually an uneven appearance at their edges.
The object of this invention is to make a leather belt which is rendered waterproof, so as to resist the influence ol perspiration on the same, and which is provided with round edges by which a better appearance of the belt is obtained; and for this purpose the invention consists in a belt which is constructed in the manner to be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved belt. Fig. 2 is an enlarged rear elevation ot a portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the outer or sleeve-shaped body of the belt betere the filling-strip is inserted. Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section on line 5 5, Eig. 4. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the iillingstrip, and Fig. 7 is a vertical transverse section on line. 7 7, Fig. 6.
Similar letters oi reference indicate correspending parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, a, represents the outer sleeve-shaped portion, and the fillingstrip, of my improved leather belt for ladies and gentlemens use. The outer sleeveshaped portion of the belt is formed of two pieces or strips of leather awider one e, and a narrower one, a?, the wider one being lolded over near the edges and connected with the narrower inside strip a2 by overseani-stitches on the well-known glove or overseam sewing machines. The lilling-strip b, which extends substantially throughout the length of the belt, is made ol" suitable canvas, duck, or other suitable Vfabric, which is lirst provided with a size of glue and then coated with india-rubber cement c. This canvas strip l) is made of somewhat less width than the interior width of the sleeve-shaped covering (L and inserted in a suitable manner into the covering or sheath, so as to be completely inclosed by the same, after which said rillingstrip is subjected to heat, so that it is applied to the inner surface oi' the belt-covering, the filling-strip and the covering being united at both iaces oi the former throughout their full length. The result is a belt that is capable of resisting the deteriorating inlluence oi perspiration or rain, also wear, and preserves the rounded-oil' finished edges and presents a better and more linishcd appearance than the ordinary leather belts heretofore used.
Ilaving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters PatentM A bolt comprising a sheath formed of an outer wider strip and an inner narrower strip sewed together at their side edges, the wider strip being folded over near both ot its side edges to form the edges of the belt, and a 'filling-strip oi canvas or similar material inclosed by said sheath.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANTON REZNIEK.
