SHAFT-HOLDER FOR HARNESS.

Be it known that I, WYATT T. SEBREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carrollton, in the county of Carroll and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaft-Holders for Harness 3 and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This vinvention relates to new and useful improvements in automatic safety vehicle-Y shaft holders adapted to be attached to a harness and affording means whereby a shaft of a vehicle may be easily and quickly connected to or detached therefrom.

The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my device, shown as applied to a harness. Fig. 2 is a sectional view longitudinally through the same, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the saddle of a harness, and B a back-strap to which my device is held.

C designates a shell adapted to be fitted over the strap B, and said shell is provided with an elongated slot C', in which a fastening device F has aplay, which fastening device is adapted to hold one section E of the thill-holder to said shell. A portion of said section E is bent upon itself, forming a shank portion E, which receives said fastener, and one end of the section E is turned into a roll E2, forming means whereby the thill-holding section may be raised and lowered, with the fastening device moving in said slot. The upper movement of said roll is limited by the stop H, which projects from said shell C. The lower end of said shell is turned into a curved section J, which forms the second part of the shaft-holding apparatus. A strap N is fastened in an aperture c, formed in the section E, and passes through an aperture J in the curved part J and is adapted to be fastened to the bellyband of the harness.

It will be noted that one end of the section E is turned into a roll E4, whereby it will not interfere with the shaft nor with the end of the curved part J when the sections are drawn together to engage and hold the shaft. A suitable lining of any kind of fabric, preferably leather, is provided, whereby the finish of the shaft will not be marred by coming in contact with the metal of which the shaft-holding sections are made.

In operation, when it is desired to adjust the holders to a shaft, the operator, by pulling upon the roll E2, may cause the shaftholding sections to separate and receive the shaft, and by pulling down upon the strap, which is fastened to the section E, the two shaft-engaging sections may be drawn together and held when the strap is fastened to a belly-band of a harness.

From the foregoing it will be noted that by the provision of the apparatus shown and described a simple and efficient means is afforded for securely holding a shaft to a harness, and so arranged that the sections may be readily separated to allow the shaft to be released.

What I claim isj 1. A shaft-holder comprising a shell, a saddle-strap passing through and fastened to said shell, the front wall of said shell provided with an elongated slot and having its lower end projected and bent to form a shaftsupporting hook, an inverted-hook-shaped shaft-retaining member having a shank portion, the end of which is bent to form a handle, and a slide fastened to said shank portion and having a play in said slot, as set forth.
