UNITE TATE PATENT GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 29, 1907.
Application filed December 4, 1905. Serial No. 290,296.
To 00% whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR R. PoLLooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment-supporters of the type known as garters, and
as for its objects to produce a comparatively simple inexpensive device of this char actor in which the upper end of the supporter may be readily and securely engaged with the nether garment, one wherein encircling of the limb of the wearer by the garter and consequent stoppage of circulation is obviated, and one in which the supporter may be plonveniently and securely engaged with the ose.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this type in which the garment-engaging device may be readily manip ulated for engagement or disengagement and one in which the parts of the device will be securely locked in engaging position, but may be conveniently released when circumstances require;
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1- is a side elevation of a garment-supporter embodying the invention and showing the same applied for use. Fig. 2 is a front face view of the garment-engaging device. Fig. 3 is an inner face view of the same, showing the parts in engaging position. Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the parts released.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the garter, composed of a length of elastic material and equipped at one end with a garmentengaging device 2 and at its other end with a hose-engaging device 3.
The garment-engaging device 2 includes a sheet-metal body portion or plate 4, having a portion or extension 5, provided with longitudinal slots 6 to receive the elastic 1, there being pivoted to one end of the plate 4, which is provided between its ends with a transverse opening 7, a U-shaped garment-engaging element or pin 8, while pivoted to the other end of the plate 4 is a locking member or piece 9, having a spring-engaging portion 10, adapted to fit in the opening 7 and provided along its side edges with grooves or seats 11, formed to receive, respectively, the ends of the pin 8.
In practice the clasp 3 having been engaged with the hose the device 2 is engaged with the nether garment by inserting the pin 8 therethrough and thereafter turning the piece 9 into engagement with the ends of the pin, under which conditions the spring portion 10 will fit tightly in the opening 7 for holding the parts in engaging position, it being noted that the pin 8 will be securely held in such position by the locking member 9 and, further, that liability of the garment or the hose being torn by the respective engaging devices is wholly obviated.-
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. Ina garmentsupporter, a garment-engaging device comprising a body portion provided with an opening, an engaging pin pivoted to swing toward and from the body, and a locking-piece pivoted to the body and movable into engagement with the pin, said piece having a spring-engaging portion designed to seat in said opening.
2. In a garmentsupporter, a garment-engaging device comprising a body portion having an opening, a substantially U-shaped pin pivoted to swing toward and from the body and a locking-piece pivoted to the body and movable for engaging the ends of the pin, said piece having longitudinal pin-receiving grooves and a spring portion to seat in the opening in the body.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR H. POLLOCK.
