Description

z'fimmea;
' PATENTED JAN. 29, 1907. J. KAISERREINBR.
CANDLE EXTINGUISHER.
APPLICATION FILED APR.6.1906.
JOHANN KAISERREINER, OF HAAG, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
CANDLE-EXTINGUISHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1907.
Application filed April 6,1906. Serial No. 310,280.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANN KAISERREINER, a subject of the Austrian Emperor, and a resident of Haag, in Lower Austria, Empire of Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candle- Extinguishers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to candle-extinguishers; and it consists in certain-features of novelty, which will appear from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved extinguisher as applied to a candle. Fig. 2 is a sectional view to Fig. 1 with the e'xtinguisher shown in its operative position. Fig.
-3 is a plan View of this device, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line A B of Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views.
The device consists, in substance, of a ring a and flap-tongues b, which are hinged to the ring, as shown at c, and are under the action of springs d, which act to press the flaptongues b inwardly. The circumference of the ring a is preferably fiat-sided, as shown, the flap-tongues thus constituting upward continuations of the individual sides of the ring a. The inner diameter of the ring a is so calculated as to closely fit the candle e in order that the ring may seat air-tight on the candle. It is advantageous to such end to form the inner surface of the ring with longitudinal ridgesf, Fig. 4.
When it is desired to extinguish the candle, the device is moved upwardly until the flap-tongues I; close over the flame, so as to extinguish it. This will be clear from Fig. 2.
A further improvement consists in providing sto s g, Fig. 2, at the inner lower edge of each ap-tongue, these stops being so arranged as to lie against the upper edge of the ring a when the flap-tongues are in their closed position. By this means the flaptongues are limited in their inward motion they perform under the action of the springs (Z, and the stops being made alike the flaptongues will each have the same inclination to the axis of the candle, so as to form a tight closure.
What I claim is 1. In a candle-extinguisher, in combination, a ring fitting on the candle, spring-actuated flap-tongues hinged to such ring, and' stops at the lower inneredges of such flaptongues, these stops being adapted to bear upon the upper edge of the said ring, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a candle-extinguisher, in combination, a ring fitting on the candle, spring-actuated flap-tongues hinged to such ring, and longitudinal ridges on the inner surface of the ring, substantially as and. for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name, this 21st day of March, 1906, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHANN KAISERREINER. Witnesses:
