Be it known that I, JOsErH TYR'A', a citizen of the United States, residing at Minnea olis,
in the county of Hennepin'and State of linnesota, have invented certain-new and useful Improvements in Sheet Metal Doors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descri tion of the invention, such as 4will enable ot ers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usej the same.
My invention relates to sheet-metal doors, and-has forits especial object to` provide a door of this character that is so constructed or reinforced internally that aV person cannot pass therethrough even if the sheet-metal plates of the door be removed or broken, away. 1 A
To the above ends -the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described, and. defined/in the `claims.A The invention is illustrated 1n the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the-several views.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a` view in elevation, showing a sheet-'metal door embodying my invention and showing also a door-frame in which the door is hung, some arts of the door being broken away. Fig. `2 is 'a horizontal section taken on the line .r2 .r2 of Fig. 1. Referring to the rawings, the numeral `1 'indicates the door-frame, which may be of any suitable construction. l

In accordance with my invention I place a hardanetal barrier within the door between the inner and outer plate portions thereof and arrange the same so that a person cannot pass through the door even when the metal plates-of the door are broken 'or tornl off. AIn Figs. 1 and 2 this barrier is made u ofa plurality of parallel rods disposed horizontally one over the other, extended trans- VAversely of the door between the inner and outer plates thereof, and riveted at their ends to the vertical bars of the reinforcing-frame 6. These bars 7 willpreferablybe of hardened or spring' tem ered steel, so that they cannot be readily roken or sawed. The said rods are of course placed so close together that a person cannot-passvbetween them.
- In the construction illustrated in Figs' and 4 the barrier is in the form of an imperforate hardmetal plate 8 ofr considerable thickness. In this constructionV the rectanL gular'inarginal reinforcing-frame is made up of laterally-spaced pairs of metal angle-bars 9, which are riveted to the' four edges of the said plate. Both forms of the barrier greatly strengthen the door in all respects Iand make it practically impossible for a person to force a passage through the door.
A door of the character above described is desirable for use in a great many different plzu.e s-.-su ,-,h,'for instance, as bank-buildings, storc-buildings, safety-deposit buildings, andA generally wherever great secrecy is desired. They are also desirable for use in jails and other places where persons are to beconiined.
What l claim is- 1. A. sheet-metal door having a rectangular marginal reinforcing-frame placed therein, and having parallel bars serving as a barrier applied to said marginal'frame between the inner and outer plates thereof, substantially as described.

2. A sheet-metal door having a rectangular marginal reinforcing-frame placed therein, and having a metal barrier lApplied to said marginal frame and extending transversel of the door from the top to the bottom thereof, between the inner and outer plates thereof, substantially as described.
