Description

,itatet 'tateut l @Hite if" MRS. MARY ANN H. SAURMAN, OF PHlLADELPHIA, PENNSYL- VANIA.
Letters Patent No. 83,884, dated November 10, 1868.
IMPROVED BATH-ROOM RACK.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mrs. MARY ANN H. SAURMAN, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Bathltooin Rack, and l do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description ofthe nature thereof, sutcient to enable others skilled inthe art to which my invention appertains, to fully understand and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingl drawings, making part of this specification, in which the gure'is a front view of the device illustrating my invention, which invention consists in applying to a plate or support a series of receptacles for brushes, combs, soap, and other toilet-articles, so that the water which drops therefrom shall be directed to a place oi' deposit.
l produce a convenient and useful rack, which pos sesses several advantages, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, A represents a plate, constructed of any suitable material, by preference ci' tin, painted,
ljapanned, oi' otherwise protected from the action of water, and ornamented as desired.
To the face of this plate I attach a series oi' receptacles, B, in which are placed the combs, the hair and tooth-brushes, and other toilet-articles.
It is necessary that these receptacles, excepting the one for the comb, should be open, or partly open, at the bottom, so that the water iu the brushes may drip off.
C C are the soap-boxes, which are hung on the plate A, by means oi' hooks, or other i'asteuings, which will support the boxes in place, but allow their ready removal. Openings are made in these boxes, so that the water on the soap will run out therefrom.
The bath-tub pipe or'plug, when removed from the tub D, is to be placed 0n a cup, E, secured to the plate.
lts upper end is prevented from falling outward by means of a ring, F, likewise secured to the plate.
G represents a ledge, which is sccin'ed to thc plate near its lower end, and projecting sufficiently forward' to canse the water dripping from the receptacles and boxes above it to fall on said ledge, and thereby be directed to a receptacle or pan, H, below it. This receptacle is removable from plate A, in order to pour out or remove thc water collected therein.
It will be seen that the boxes, cups, and receptacles are so arranged on the plate that allof the drip-water will be directed to the pan H. l
The ledge G prevents the water from running down behind this pan, whereby the wall is protected froml water, as is evident without further explanation. All oi' the various receptacles, cups, and boxes may be detachable, it' desired, in order to facilitate their cleansing, and also to form a compact bundle for transpor-v tation or removal.
The device is simple and practical, and is intended.
for the bath-room, and toilet-purposes generally, and should bc hung up within convenient reach of the bath tub, wash-basin, or any other suitable place.
Having thus described my invention, lVhat I claim as new herein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isf A series of receptacles, for the purpose described, arranged and applied so that the water dripping, from theui will be conducted to a place of discharge, substantially as set forth.
To thc above, I have signed my name, this 7th day of October', 1868.
MRS. MARY ANN H. SAURMAN; f
' VVituesses WM. A. Wlnnnnsnnm, J. W. Hiiiur'rox, Jr.
