Description
mssmzg. PATENTED 13mm, 1906.
' J. B. WILLIAMS.
SHUTTER FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED 8EPT.1, 1906.
TEE-
JOHN B. WILLIAMS, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
SHUTTER-FASTENER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 18, 1906.
Application filed September 1, 1908. Serial No. 332,925.
To all whom it ntay concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN B. WILLIAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Fastener for WVindow-Shutters and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in fastenings for window-shutters, and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and durable device of this character adapted to firmly lock the shutters by means of an ordinary padlock.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device by which the shutters can be readily latched or unlatched.
Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts, Figure l is a plan view of a fastening device for window-shutters, the padlock being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the inner face of one of the castings for holding the dog or latch. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the dogs or latches.
Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate the arms of the casting 3, which is secured to a window-sill in any desired manner. The arms 1 and 2 are adapted to be engaged by dogs 4 and 5, which are secured to the window-shutter in a manner hereinafter described. The dogs 4 and 5 are adapted to engage the arms 1 and 2 when the shutters are closed. The shutters can also be readily unlatched from Within in a very simple manner, which is accomplished by simply raising the dog or latch, as will be readily understood.
The casting 3 has an upwardly-projecting plate 6, which is provided with an eye 7. The dogs or latches are also provided with similar eyes, and it will be seen that when the shutters are latched the eyes of the dogs will be thrown into alinement with the eye 7, whereby the shutters can be securely locked by an ordinary padlock.
The dogs or latches 4 and 5 mounted in castings 8 and pass through slots 9 therein. The castings 8 are provided with recesses 1 0 for the admission of the pivot-bars of the dogs. The pivot-bar 11 is formed integral with the dogs.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A fastener for window-shutters, comprising a pair of dogs or latches, adapted to engage the horizontal arms of a casting, said dogs and casting having eyes adapted to be brought into alinement for the reception of a padlock, substantially as described.
2. A fastener for window-shutters, comprising a casting having oppositely-disposed horizontal arms, dogs secured to the shutters, and adapted to engage said arms, while the device is being locked.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN B. WILLIAMS.
are pivotally Witnesses:
DEAN SWIFT, WM. S. TORBERT.
