PATENTED DEG l8 1 910s.
A TTOZPNEYS W. G. RENIE.
SAW GUIDE.

SAW-GUIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 18, 1906.
Application filed January 5, 1906. Serial No. 29 L804.
To all 1111007)]. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. Rnmn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hoquiam, in the county of Chehallis and State of ashington, have invented a newand use ful SawGuide, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to saw-guides, and has for an object to provide a device of the class embodying new and improved features of convenience, accuracy, adaptability, and efliciency.
A further object of the invention is to provide a guide for band-saws while being sharpened, gummed, and otherwise operated upon, provided with improved means for convenient and accurate adjustment to height and plumb and improved means for positioning the saw relative to the guide.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of the improved guide in rear elevation. view of the guide in end elevation, as indicated by arrow 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aview in side elevation similar to Fig. 1 with the guide for double-edged saws omitted.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
In its preferred embodiment the improved saw-guide forming the subject-matter of this application comprises a standard 10, mounted in guides 11, carried upon any approved form of base, as the legs 12, and resting at its lower end upon the adjusting-screw 13. To hold the guides and base rigidly upright, braces 14 are secured to the floor in any ap proved manner, as by the screw 15, and are connected to the upper end of the guides by the j amb-nuts 16, whereby the standard may be conveniently adjusted to an accurate vertical.
Upon the upper end of the standard the Fig. 2 is a which are vertically journaled the idlers 27 and 28, defining with the lugs a passage for a saw, as 29.
When the saw being operated upon is provided with teeth along both edges, a bar 30 of hardened steel is placed between the lugs and brackets and above the rollers and secured removably therein in any approved manner, as by the-set-screws 31.
It will be understood that the band-saw, as 29, will be mounted upon the guide in such manner that the idlers 27 and 28 bear against the outside of the saw-band or the side toward which the saw tends to move under the action of the sharpening or gumming tool, (indicated in Fig. 1 in outline,) so that the surface of the saw seen in Figs. 1 and 3 is the inside surface. It will also be seen that the guide is capable of an extreme nicety of adjustment by means of the screw-spindle and the j amnuts.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A saw-guide comprising a standard, a crosshead upon the standard, immovable angular lugs extending upward from one side of the crosshead, idlers upon the opposite side of said cross-head and fixed in relation thereto, said idlers and lugs defining an unvarying passage of greater width than, and adapted to receive, a saw, and rollers journaled within the cross-head below the passage, and adapted to detachably support a bar within the passage.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. RENIE.
