UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIon,
DARWIN J. PARMELE, OF .CHIOAGOy ILLINOI Sa IMPROVEMENT IN GUIDE-FRAMES FOR SAWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,136, dated March 3,1874; application filed December 20, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DARWIN J. PARMELE, of Chicago, Cook county and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Guide- Frame for Saws, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents' a side elevation of my improved hand-saw guide-frame; Fig. 2, a bottom view; and Fig. 3, a vertical transverse section of the same on the line a c, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to a simple and convenient guide-frame for adjusting saws for cutting at various depths; and consists in a slotted frame with suitable handles, into which the saw-blade is set, so as to project at'the required depth below the bottom part, being firmly clamped by strong tightening-screws.
In the drawing, A represents the guide frame, in which a saw-blade, B, of the usual kind used by carpenters, stair-builders, and others, is inserted. Frame A may be made of wood, in one piece, with the handles 0, and is, in that case, provided with metallic basestrips 0, which are attached by countersunk screws to the lower edge of the frame at both sides of the'vertical longitudinal slot or recess b. FrameA maybe made also of iron or other metal, dispensing with strips a, being attached to the handle in a suitable manner. Slot 0 extends centrally through the whole length of frame A, and to some distance from the top part, and serves .to take up the saw-blade B therein. Screw-bolts D, with tightening-nuts D, are applied at both ends of frame A, near the lower corners thereof, for clamping the sections of the frame firmly on blade B, after the same has been adjusted to the depth required to be sawed. The blade B is firmly held along its full length by the lower parts of frame A, and readily changed to different depths by loosening the screw-nuts, resetting the blade, and tightening the nuts again. A new blade may also be inserted, or blades of different cut of teeth, forming thereby a convenient and useful implement for the trades.
Havingthus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat cut- The saw frame. or holder herein described,
consisting of the slotted body A, having handles C, and adapted for the reception of a detachable saw-blade, B, which is retained in position by clamping-bolts D passing through the ends of the frame or holder, all constructed and arranged as herein shown and set forth.
DARWIN JOHN PARMELE.
